Think I’m ready?

Only 2 more sleeps until WARPED TOUR!!! I am still up North, but I fly back tomarow (I’m missing three days of work = $450 bucks to go to Warped. Stupid?).

I will be getting off the plane at 4pm and into the car and Murphy and I are driving to Calgary and “hopefully” catching the end of the fireworks!

Then at 1pm the next day (or 52 hours from now *tick tick tick*) it shall begin!
Needless to say seeing as I have 1 Gig of memory cards “the biggest update ever” will come this weekend so be sure to check back on Friday’ish and they will be up!

Till then. See you there, otherwise “wish you were here”.
June 28th, 2003

I had another rant for tonight but this happened and it made me think:

Tonight I went fishing. There was a softball game going on at the ball diamond against Rabbit Lake (the other “rival” Uranium mine) but I didn’t go because…well…softball brings back too many bad memories of throwing the ball and swinging like a semi-retarded little girl.

ANYWAYS, the point is that tonight one of the guys from the other mine got hit in the eye with the softball and there was tons of blood everywhere/ lets hope he doesn’t lose his eye.

Everyone is kind of shooken up here because it was a big deal and there was a lot of blood and they have to fly him out to LaRonge because he lost so much blood.

This brings me to wonder “what if I had played tonight”

I’m not thinking “I’m guilty for this happening” but I do think that if I had been there, something different would have happened. For example I would have changed the batting order and the time of all of the events would have changed.

Or I may have run for the ball a little faster/slower and that would have changed the way he would have gone for the ball too.

There are so many different things that would have happened had I been there and even though the same ball may have been hit by the same person, my presence would have some how changed the chain of events so that that guy wasn’t in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Makes me wonder about all of the other bad (or good) things in life that could have been different had just one little thing changed, like an extra person being there…

.

June 27th, 2003

There are a lot of shows going on. (Theres one tonight with DFA!). If you didn’t know that, then you aren’t checking the threeohsix.org calender enough!

I’m up North right now untill tuesday and then its WARPED TOUR!!!! so I’m not too bitter…

Man the Queen is hot up close!

Today’s
bitching is about commercials before movies in theaters.  Last night I went
and saw HULK at Pacific. Now as always there is about 15 minutes of previews and
commercials before a movie, and funny enough, often the previews are better than
the movie that you end up seeing. (I’m not saying HULK was bad. Go see it for
yourself)

What maddens (is that a word?) me is that there are Shampoo
commercials before movies. Why? Don’t we get enough drilling from Shampoo
commercials on TV that a movie theater should be the only place that we can
escape? I guess not. There is advertising everywhere. A lot of advertising is
very good and “mysteriously” gets you to buy their product because it is funny,
or well done, or makes you cry (like that Freedom 55 commercial with the kid
growing up and getting married *sob*) BUT all too often there are advertisements
that I think are just a waste of money.

For instance (of course there is an instance…) during elections there are
always posters up with pictures of candidates.  The poster is just a
picture of the person and a catch fraise like “a smart choice” or “looking out
for you”. These posters of course get the persons image and name in your mind
but how bout just a name and a quick list of what the person is going to do for
me if I elect him/her?

How bout instead of a hot chick having an orgasm while
shampooing her hair I am told what all those damn herbs in the shampoo will do
for my hair!    The next thing is advertisements in magazines for
clothing brands (Tommy, etc) where the ad is 99.9% sex/photo/art and you can’t
even tell what clothes they are wearing. I think I even saw an add in a magazine
last night where there was a person not wearing any clothes at all under a
waterfall and it was advertising a clothing brand!

Maybe I’m not as pissed off
at the advertising as much as it is the cost/effect.  Coming back to the
movie theater, I am sure it is super expensive to advertise in a theater and why
spend the money when we already see the commercial on TV 3-5 times a day?
Same with those super “artsy” ads in magazines with models and fancy
photography. Those ads probably cost tens of thousands of dollars to set up/
photograph and for what?

Next time you think about an advertisement you’ve
seen, think about the price/effectiveness of it. Just because they spent a lot
of money on the ad, doesn’t mean you can be suckered in to spending a lot of
money on the product. Quite often the cheapest/stupidest commercials work the
best (eg. “Wus up”, or “barqs has bite”) and the commercials with a bunch of
skinny models painted blue and making everything turn to ice is just a waste of
the advertisers money, and my time.

Some may wonder
why there are 6 sleds in my back yard in the middle of summer, but if you know
my family you’ll know it’s best not to question things like that!

.

.

Today I got “hired” to take pictures of two of my friends families for their
sisters Grads which was fun.  I video taped the one Grade 8 grad and while
I stood there, beside me was a little 2 year old girl WHO WOULDN’T SHUT UP! I
don’t know how many times her parents said “shhhhh” and even I was saying “shhh”
to myself because it was really annoying to have this kid talking gibberish
during a grad.  When I get married some day (despite Nolto) I am going to
offer a day care in the building for parents to dump there kids and the
invitation will say “parents with younger children and kindly asked to not bring
their children to the ceremony”

I seriously don’t think I have ever been to a
wedding where there wasn’t some screaming baby in the background.  If you
have a kid, and you know that it wont shut up, then invest $6.65/hr and get a
babysitter! You will save yourself embarrassment and not ruin other peoples
experience by having a screaming kid that wont shut up because it is bored and
you shouldn’t have brought it anyways!

You may have a right to go to a wedding
and see your friend/relative’s “beautiful ceremony” but you DON’T have a right
to ruin it for everyone else by bringing your screaming baby!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRITTANY!!!!

.

SCANDAL!!!!

A manager and a Lab tech here have been having an affair for years. Both have marriages back in Saskatoon that don’t know that they are having an affair when they are up North. His wife even picks up the guy at the airport and “the other woman” is standing right next to him and says goodbye when he leaves!

First off you have to wonder “how can they get away with this?” or “how do the other husband and wife not know about this?”

The answer and the crazy part is because EVERYONE HERE KNOWS about the affair, (the guy’s room is beside mine and wellÖ. lets just say he has a squeaky bed)

What bugs me is that no one has told the husband or wife what is going on. This made me think because “in our age group” if something like that is happening it always “gets around” and the other person finds out. Why is it different with adults? Is there some sacred anti-tattling law that you abide by when you’re old? Of course it is a touchy subject and who wants to be “the teller’ but still I can’t believe that a camp of 179 people, most of which know about what is going on can talk behind the “couples” back and say “ooooh they’re having an affair” and it be the gossip topic but meanwhile there is a husband, wife, family?, who is in the shadows?

Not that I’m going to be “the teller”Ö. But I’m just saying that I’m surprised someone hasn’t been yetÖ. You’d think somehow, someway “they’d figure it out”

June 18th, 2003

First off read THIS artical…

So 200 years ago the British crown bought 250,000 acres from the Indians for 10 shillings (equivalent to 120 cents). The funny thing is that the land the Indians sold is now Toronto!

So now “of course” the Indian Band (200 years later!) is suing the government because it was an “unfair deal” and they want market value for 250,000 acres! Experts figure this will be the biggest land settlement in history costing billions of dollars! My question is, why do they even figure it will settle?! I mean they still have the signed legal document entitling them to the land, as well it was Britain who bought the land (which became Canada) so why should Canadian Tax payers have to foot the bill? My mom was born in Toronto = me. I believe this is just the band trying to get money out of something that should be thrown out of court!

YES, obviously it was an unfair deal and YES it was wrong that they bought the land for $1.20 but it was 200 years ago! #1 If I sell my car to someone for $1.20 and then ask for more money because I sold it too cheap I am shit out of luck because I sold it already and that person got a good deal. #2 If I sold my car 200 years ago and there have been 10 generations since then that haven’t said anything then what right do I have now to ask for more money now?

The land the Indians sold went on to become Canada’s largest city with 5,000,000 people and it creates jobs, industry, money, power, and life for Canada = Good

Suing Canada for billions of dollars for the land would cost tax payers and take money away from more important programs = Bad

In conclusion my narrow, one sided, biased, uneducated opinion is that they shouldn’t get one cent and should be fined for wasting time just like that guy who sued General Motors $700 Trillion for “polluting the air” and ended up going to jail.

TOM UPDATED!

June 17th, 2003

The sun doesn’t go down here! It pretty much hangs out along the horizon and then goes back up. I usually don’t have trouble sleeping, but looking out my window reminds me of the movie Insomnia (of course I haven’t killed anyoneÖ..yet) but still it is weird never seeing night.

I took this picture at 11pm and I woke up at 2, 3 and 4 am this week and the sun was still up. I hate how in the winter it is dark when I catch my bus to school, I am inside all day, and then it is dark when I catch the bus at the end of the day. It is a nice change to be up North and never see the dark but stillÖ.

I know I’ve been slacking lately with the whole updating my website or “content” (c’mon I’m 600kms up North!) so when I’m boring always go to www.threeohsix.org !

…theres my plug-of-the-day

Also Tarrah and Nolto can update now so check back later and they have rants just waiting to upload!

June 15th, 2003

I just reolized that with the server change to my website my Waste people can’t update (I wonder if they even noticed…) so I’ll be fixing that tomarow but for now heres some “super cool pictures”:

June 14th, 2003

After getting my hair cut I have been asked several times “Did you get your hair cut?”

Now since I got an inch cut off it is obvious that I did get a haircut, so why do people keep asking me?

Perhapse it is just a way of saying “I noticed” but I think an appropriately sarcastic responce would be:

“No, I just combed my hair shorter today”

June 13th, 2003

All of the pictures of the Wednesday night show are up!  Go into the
fancy new BANDS section  to see the pics of Poser Disposer, Suck-Cess,
Untimely Demise, and Tombstone Diaries.

There are 13 broken links on my site right now (can you find them?!) so don’t
bother e-mailing me cuz I know all about ’em….

Anyways I’m back up North for another exciting week but I’ll still update so
check back later! Till then, enjoy the pics!

June 11th, 2003

I got Arlin to switch punkoryan.com over to the new server which will take
24hrs so….

If you want to see SUPER COOL BIKING then
click there < —

June 10th, 2003

Why hasn’t Ryan been updating lately?  He’s been working on moving
punkoryan.com over to a new server.  So that’s why… as well I DO have a
life you know…but anyways Nolto and Tom both updated so read their shit and
then check back here later… it’ll be super cool!

June 8th, 2003

So you should be looking at super awesome pictures of Goldfinger right
now but the show was canceled due to mechanical problems with their bus ( but
Ryan’s conspiracy theory is that they didn’t pre-sell many tickets because they
were $22.50!!! so they bailed on playing here because there weren’t enough
people….)

c’mon! $22.50 to see  Goldfinger and only one local band opening? what
do you expect?

June 4th, 2003

Maturity…

I work up North with adults. Most guys here are in their 30’s and 40’s. As I have ranted about before, I always thought that once you left High School immaturity will end. This has been my first job working with all full grown men and I always laugh to myself when I see how they all act sometimes like they were still back in High School. For example they all pick on the foreign guy who’s name I don’t even have room for. It’s not bad or anything, its just like how you would have joked with the exchange student in school. “Your European? You should see a doctor about thatÖ” or they all call each other Gay or play pranks just like in High School.

Of course there is nothing wrong with acting immature sometimes (I do it all the time!) but something I noticed todayÖ

Right now there are contract negotiations going on with the Union here because the workers have all voted to strike if action and pay raises don’t happen. The case has gone to Court and several Forman’s and managers have unfortunately had to go to court and testify either for or against the Union. The Power Engineer had to testify yesterday. He is a nice guy, but was required by law to testify against the Union.

There are two coffee rooms where we all have our breaks. One smoking, one non-smoking. There are usually only five or six people in the smoking room and the other dozen workers are in the non-smoking room. Today when the Power Engineer came into the room and sat down for coffee all of the Union workers one by one left the room and went to the other coffee room.

I felt sooo sorry for the guy because he had lost a ton of the respect that he had built over years with all the workers for testifying but he didn’t have a choice. It sickened me to see how a dozen full grown men could do the “silent protest” bullshit and leave the room when he came in. I am sure he already feels bad enough because he knows what he did.

I guess if everyone always got along and forgave and forgot there wouldn’t be any wars, etc and obviously that isn’t what human nature is like but stillÖ..Fucking grow up old men!

June 3rd, 2003

“listen”

I love drums. They set the pace for the music, they give a beat to the song, and they let you know what is going on in a song (e.g. Lead in to a guitar solo or the classic three ticks of the sticks to start off a song.)

Unfortunately I would say drummers are the least recognised musicians. They have to sit at the back of the stage, with their face hidden behind symbols.

I always take a ridiculous amount of pictures of bands when they play, but I only ever get 2 or 3 max of the drummer. Drummers are very hard to photograph due to being at the back of the stage, poor lighting, and hard to see them behind the drums.

I always feel sorry for the drummer, even though he/she is one of the most valuable members because “everybody plays guitar” but drummers are precious few when it comes to finding one for a band compared to finding a guitarist.

The bass player is also quite left out. Sure he/she is up front beside the guitar player and the vocalist but have you ever seen a crowd go wild after a wicked bass solo?

How bout this question: Have you ever heard a wicked bass solo?

I ask this because bass isn’t heard as much as any other instrument. I know I said that drummers are the least recognised musicians, but the bassest is the least heard musician, even though without him/her you would be wondering “what’s missing?”

I often find people who play bass are the only people who hear the bass. Several times I have heard people who play bass say “wow do you hear that? He is soo good!” or “I can’t believe how that guy plays bass”

Everybody else always raves about the “wicked guitar” or “sweet vocals” or “amazing drum solo” but unless the bass is the only instrument playing usually people don’t pay attention to it unless they play bass and have an ear for it.

With that in mind. The next time you listen to music or see a band take a second to “listen” to each instrument individually. I absolutely love listening to CD’s on other peoples’ stereos or using different headphones than my own because every stereo reproduces the sound differently. Some stereos make different instruments sound louder which may help you hear the song better.

I always get excited when I hear something new in a song that I never noticed before like an extra instrument, or a different guitar riff that I never realised was there. Next time you are listening to one of your favourite CDs read the booklet (assuming you bought the CD) and read the “special thanks” or “featuring” section to see if there is anything you never noticed before. For example the newest Voyd CD has Ryan Smith (setaside) screaming in the background at the end of Track 2. I had never noticed this before until I read that it was there and then listened to the song to try and hear it. Now I always hear it and it makes the song better.

Instead of “shutting your mouth and opening your eyes” (AFI) shut your eyes and open your ears.

June 2nd, 2003

punkoryan.com is moving over to a new server that will be shared with threeohsix.org
The transfer has happened while I am here up North therefor
there will be lots of broken links to videos and music and pictures till
I get back on Friday and fix the links. Till then read my review!

June 1st, 2003

I’m up North again till Friday but that doesn’t mean I can’t write!

Seeing as I work in Future Shop that is where I buy most of my
new CDís and a few days ago I realised there is a new Punk-O-Rama out!
Punk-O-Ramaís, along with the Fat Wreck Chord compilations have always been
something that all-punk fans, despite tastes all love.

I remember back in Grade 9 Bunnin lent me Punk-O-Rama III
telling me “take a listen to this CD you might like it” Ö and I did = Music I
listen to today = This web site (but lets not give Bunnin all the credit!)

I own Punk-O-Rama 1 thru 7 and so purchasing vol. 8 would be
logical as well as traditional.

The Punk-O-Rama compilations are a great way to discover new
bands and hear the best of what Epitaph has to offer. With that in mind, I must
say there are a few disappointments of Punk-O-Rama 8. If you want my opinion on
each track read the

FULL BORING REVIEW

but in a testishell (
face=Wingdings>?
did you get that?) there are some pretty lame tracks on
the compilation from some bands who shouldnít even be on a Punk-o-Rama.

For example Epitaph signed Sage Francis, and Atmosphere two
Hip-Hop groupsÖwhy?

I am a huge fan of diversity of music and I listen to
EVERYTHING but what the hell is hip-hop doing on a Punk-O-Rama?

Two other problems I had were that there weíre two Bad Religion
songs from the same album. Now Bad Religion is already huge and Epitaph doesnít
need to promote their album more than having only one song. A song from a
different, new, struggling band would have been better.

As well there is a remix of a very shitty Transplants song too.
The original Transplants song is also on the compilation, so why waste a song on
a remix when once again you could have put on another band?!

Speaking of the TransplantsÖwhat the hell?! Punk music has not,
will not and shall not use loops! The drums are looped, the techno is looped,
and the vocals are looped! Thatís not Punk, itís a nerd sitting at his computer
with 3 samples and a DJ program! I am boycotting the Transplants!

Anger aside, now for the REASONS YOU SHOULD GO OUT AND BUY
PUNK-O-RAMA 8

Ok, so originally I was going to write a lot more about how
this is the “worst Punk-O-Rama ever” and whatnot but I figured I should give it
a few more listens before jumping to any negative conclusions. Wasnít long
before I realised I had listened to it a half dozen times and I was starting to
love it just like all the other Punk-O-Ramas.

First off it is a DOUBLE CD with 32 tracks for $7.99 so you
canít go wrong for the money. Click

HERE
for all the tracks.

There is also a music video for Death By Stereo ñ Wasted Words
if you pop it in your cd-rom.

YES there is a lot of SHITTY SHIT that I wouldnít even shit
onÖ. BUT I did the math and I would say there are 24 good songs vs. 8 songs I
wouldnít shit on so its definitely NOT a waste of money (how many CDís have you
bought that cost twice as much for 1 song anyways?)

My favorite tracks would have to be the Distillers, Motion City
Soundtrack, F-minus, Turbonegro, Refused and Raised Fist but then again I may
have a more fast/hardcore taste than you so you may end up loving all the songs
I hate youíll just have to see for your selfÖoh and by the wayÖthe two Hip-Hop
songs are actually pretty decent, I just donít think they belong on a
Punk-O-Rama.

Just like everything else in life, Punk-O-Ramaís have changed
and become more mainstream in the last few years, but despite that they all,
just as with this one, are a great way to discover new bands, and add to your
collection.

That was such a good show!    Though its been 15 treacherous
days since I’ve been to a show so that made this FREE show even better!

A night of Metal and $10 pitchers. What more in life could I ask for?

I took tons of pictures of
3
Inches of Blood
(of course) as well there are 3 videos

Video 1

Video 2
and

Video 3
Enjoy!

Every single one of my rant’ers have updated in the last few days (even Tom
with two rants!!!) so check ’em out!

As well check out the BANDS section…. I spent a ridiculous amount of time
prettying ( <– holy crap that’s a word!) it up. Makes you want to look at all
the pictures all over again!

May 28th, 2003

First off I called Ryan Drabble and YES the Belvedere show at the Bassment is
CANCELED!  :(

But if your of age then go to 3 Inches of Blood but get there early cuz its a
FREE SHOW!

If you like funny shirts then check out

THIS
place. It was a good waste of about 20 mins of my time. Enjoy!

May 27th, 2003

So Saturday night I’m drunk (as per usual) and we are walking down 2nd avenue
and there is a shopping cart in the middle of the sidewalk….so….of course (
<–hey Kirk I spelled it right!) I am like “dudeman I can totally jump over
that!”  My friends tell me I can’t but being some sort of supernatural
being I believe that I am capable of jumping over a shopping cart
intoxicated….

Now by now your thinking “I totally know what happened next….Ryan fucks up,
falls on his broken arm, breaks it even more, and is totally screwed….”
<— Now this is undoubtedly what would have happened and if I did fall on my
arm again I would completely screw up the joint and it would be totally not
cool.

So now your wondering “Then what did happen?”   WELL, as I start
running towards the shopping cart gung-ho on jumping over it and a world of
applause coming from all around me for my never ending awesomeness I twist my
freaking ankle and scream in pain and limp for two days after….

So now Ryan (being me) has a broken arm and a twisted ankle. Great huh?
Well, this all made me think about how it was a good thing that I twisted my
ankle because I doubt I would have made the jump over the cart (though if I was
sober I TOTALLY could do it! *note to self:  video tape myself jumping over
a shopping cart* ) but I probably would have fallen on my arm again (cuz that’s
the side I usually fall on) so it brings me back to the question:

Do bad things happen for a reason some times?

Like often bad things happen in life, but sometimes, if they didn’t, worse
things would have happened.  An example would be all the people who slept
in for work the day of 9/11 and “would have died” except their car broke down,
or they were late for work that day.   There have been times when I
have accidentally slept in and missed my first class, only to find out that the
class was cancelled anyways and if I had came to class I would have missed out
on a precious hour of sleep and be pissed off. (Kind of a bad comparison to
dying but you get the idea)

Life is full of coincidences, but I believe some times its not a coincidence,
its someone/thing looking out for you….

May 26th, 2003

Notice anything different?

I got rid of the left frame and put it into the top banner which I also
spruced up.

If anyone has any complaints, problems, or comments send an e-mail to
myass@punkoryan.com ( <–
yes that is a real e-mail)

Also notice the scroll bar on the right is black and grey! (*ooohhh ahhhhh*)

I have three more rants coming up but I spent all my time on that damn logo.

May 25th, 2003

I PASSED I PASSED!  Thank You God I PASSED!!!

Incase you have no idea what I’m talking about I passed 2nd year Electrical
Engineering with a huge 60% average, thus SMASHING the 58% passing mark and
allowing me to go on into the 3rd year.

IN YOUR FACE 58 !!!

Automatic

I don’t remember tying my shoes today. I know I must have done it, but when?

I also am not 100% sure if I took my Asthma medication today. I remember picking
up the inhaler, but it is so automatic for me to click the dosage dispenser that
some times I question whether or not I even clicked it.

There are so many things in life that are routine. Brushing our teeth, putting
on pit stick, eating, etc. However we have all forgotten to put on our pit stick
at least once in our lives. Or if not that, there is something that you have
forgotten to do once that “I can’t believe I forgot that” –> What happened?

Was there some distraction? Did we get carried away on something else?  Or did
we assume that because it is so automatic to do something like that, that we
could break the routine and we would come back to it with no problem. 1

I think it is scary to rely on automatic things like our morning routine because
if they fail then we will be stuck at school or work and feeling all
self-conscious because “oh my God I can’t believe I forgot to brush my teeth
today, what the hell happened?”

I am a ridiculously forgetful person and so I always have a toothbrush and pit
stick in my backpack. Call me a nerdy slob, but it has come in handy more than
once for me, and even though you may have never broken your morning routine
once. Someday question yourself as to whether you know if you always do your
routine, or if you simply rely on it to automatically happen.

I have no idea what I am talking about.

May 23rd, 2003

I’m back!!! Oh its sooo good to be home!

and now another rant…

Pride

Admit it. Its holding you back on something. Even if you don’t think you are

“like that” there is probably something.

Yesterday I bought pit stick from the confectionery here. There were two

different kinds, Right Guard and Secret.  Now of course being a male you

would assume that I would have bought the Right Guard, and yes, Right Guard

is what I normally use, but upon further inspection I saw that the Right

Guard was just Deodorant where the Secret was Anti-Persperant which I

needed. I bought the “chick stick” despite what anyone would say because I

knew it was better for me.

Now that is a bad example sure, but how bout pink highlighters. Have you

ever not chosen a pink highlighter just because it’s pink and “the other

guys will make fun of me”?  In my opinion pink is one of the most effective

highlighters because it isn’t too dark like blue or too light like yellow.

Do you take that into consideration?

Make choices in life, big and insignificant based on what the greater good

is.

My biggest pride issue (I’ll admit it) is that I don’t have a car yet

(though I’m saving my pennies!) and if there is a girl I want to ask out, I

will avoid it because I don’t want to pick her up in a minivan…. I know

the “greater good” would still be to ask her out because we can still go out

and it isn’t a big deal…but for some reason I would rather not ask her out

even though I know the reason is stupid.

What’s holding you back? What can you do about it?  What is the greater

good?

Eye contact

If your going to talk to me look me in the eyes.

I know this girl….lets call her M. Ichelle …no no ..that’s gives away
too much… how bout Michell E. Ok ok so she never makes eye contact and it
makes her look soooo cold. Like I’m sure she is nice person, but she comes
off as this super stuck up bitch because when anyone talks to her she
doesn’t even look at them in the eyes to even say hello. Ever met anyone
like this?

Eye contact says a lot. It says that you are focussed on that one person.
That nothing else is more important than what you are saying to me right
now. Not making eye contact can speak for you when you say nothing. For
example when you are being scolded or yelled at for doing something wrong by
your parents. Do you ever look at them in the eyes while they are telling
you what you did wrong?

I think about this whenever I walk pass someone in a hallway…. You know,
if you see someone you know coming down the hallway you will look down at
the ground or at something around you until the person is about 10 – 20 feet
away from you. Then you will look up, look at them in the eyes and either
say Hi or give them the sacred “nod”.

Just as my opinion with small talk, I hate passing people in the hallway.
It is always the same thing. You stare at the ground till the person is
close THEN look at them. As soon as the person is gone you go back to
looking up at where you are going. Who looks at the ground when they walk
anyways? You can see the ground 50 feet in front of you which is where you
are normally looking…. until someone else comes by.

What I am telling you to do is DON’T LOOK DOWN! You don’t look down
normally when you walk, so why look like an idiot when you walk past
someone. Be the stronger person and look straight ahead when you walk. Don’t
wait till the person you know (or don’t know) is 10-20 feet away to say Hi
or Nod, make eye contact as soon as you see them and smile.

.

Don’t be afraid to look someone in the eyes…. It’s a lot nicer than the
ground.

May 21st, 2003

You can expect a rant from me every day for the next week so be sure to keep checking back because now that I’m stuck up here with nothing to do but write…I have a lot to say!

Small talk…

“how about that weather”….”did you hear ___ made it to the ____ in that
____ sports game” ? … “I am so tired” ….”boy that ___ class sure sucks”
…. “bla bla bla”

.

I hate it all.

.

When I sit on the bus I always have my earbuds in listening
to music. Sometimes if I don’t even feel like listening to music I still
keep my earbuds in just so I don’t have to listen to the pointless crap
spewing out of peoples mouths when they only see each other for 2 minutes
and they feel they have to say something so they might as well talk about
the universal “small talk” initiator –> the weather.

The weather is the one thing that we all have in common. Despite who you
are, where your from, what your doing, you are all affected by the weather
therefor it is the #1 small talk subject but every time I hear someone talk
about the weather I want to puke because it is all bullshit.

Now if you know me, you will know that I’m not some introvert who doesn’t
like talking to people. In fact I am way too over talkative and I never shut
up. Now Kirk would say that everything I say is bullshit any ways, but at
least I don’t talk about the weather. I try to come up with random different
things to talk about rather than small talk.

I remember the first time I met my friend Terri’s roommate Tara we didn’t
seem to have much in common when we first met and we weren’t talking so just
out of no where I asked “so how’s your pets?”. For some reason it was the
first thing that came to my mind but we ended up talking about our pets for
half an hour and turns out a magpie attacked her cat so her dog now chases
away magpies to protect the cat.

This sparked a whole conversation on how animals think and was pretty
interesting for a first conversation with a person I just met.
It was out first conversation and it didn’t involve any bullshit cliché
small talk.

I love watching the news because there is always something interesting that
has happened that will always be an interesting topic to discuss with
someone.

I don’t know how many people I told about the guy who cut his own arm off to
get free from the boulder he was trapped under but it sparked a ton of
interesting conversations with people about peoples will to live and power
to endure —> now isn’t that a lot better than “you took math 110 too? Wow
that was a hard class”

.

Next time you are on the bus, or run into someone you haven’t seen in a
while ask him or her something out of the ordinary. Something they wont be
expecting that will cause them to respond in a way that actually makes them
think rather than just repeat the same dreaded response they give every day
when someone says something for the sake of breaking silence.

.

Don’t talk for the sake of talking —> talk for the sake of conversation.

May 19th, 2003

…just letting you all know that I’m making $28/hour today…. :)

May 17th, 2003

I know what you’re thinking: “Blast and Gadzooks! Where is Ryan? Where are
the pictures of the last show? Why hasn’t Ryan updated in like two whole
days? ”

Well I am up North Again so that can explain the lack of updates, but as
for why I didn’t go to the Liberated Noise show on Thursday night…
I broke my arm. Yes, in all my awesomeness I went over the handlebars
on my bike while doing a drop and fractured the end of my Ulna at the
Joint.
It wasn’t even a prestigious fall either :( I just thought I would “ride
it off” so I did the drop again (let it be known) and kept riding for two
hours and then went to work.
I figured since I was leaving to go up North for a week the next day I had
better get my arm checked out just to be safe because it still hurt and
turns out I did break it.
Luckily I don’t need a cast because it is just a fracture at the end of the
joint so casting it would be bad because I would have a stiff elbow for
years.

Well that’s my boring story. If you read it good for you! At least now you
know that rather than being at a show which I love I was at the hospital
which I hate.

I took a ton of pictures here last time I was up North but I never put them
up for people to see so if you care you can click below to see the hard life
I have up here when I’m not working :)

If your more of a rock fan than punk then for sure check out this show
tonight!

.

.

.

You know how there seems to be a week for everything that can kill you?
Cancer Week, Heart and Stroke Week, etc.  There is a week to appreciate and
reflect (and donate) to everything that can kill you, but why don’t we reflect
on things that aren’t alive in the first place but we still take for granted?
I suggest we have an INANIMATE APPRECIATION WEEK

For instance a car
. Sure your
car may me a lemon, but as much as it breaks down and sucks gas, do you ever
look at the odometer and think “holy crap that is a lot of kilometers this thing
has done!” You should appreciate the fact that your car (or your parents car)
has taken you everywhere you wanna go. We only reflect on what our cars have
done for us when they break down, why don’t you think about what your car does
for you every day. Without it, you would be walking or catching the bus and
saving the environment and wouldn’t that suck?

Next is your dishwasher
(if you wash
your own dishes then pretend).  Our dishwasher has broken down once in 5
years I can remember. Now it was THE BIGGEST inconvenience to have to wash
dishes by hand *ewww ack* for two days, but have you ever thought about how your
dishwasher probably does at least one load a day, almost every day of the year
for several years? That means in the last five years my dishwasher has done
~350×5= 1750 loads in the last 5 years that we have lived in our house (and it
was used by the previous owners for I don’t know how many years). Do you ever
stop to appreciate something like that?  An inanimate object that has done
something with minimal breakdown has never asked for anything in return except a
little Jet Dry….

Songs of the Day are:

Ninety Pound Wuss – Daylight Savings Man
<– this song is one
of my anthems!  You will either hate of LOVE this guys voice!

Ninety Pound Wuss – Perseverance

Ninety Pound Wuss – Girl Song

May 14th, 2003

So thanks to the guy in Another Day Down (sorry I don’t remember your name! )
I found out about

THIS
contest on Alternative Press’s website which is basically a contest for
“best freelance band photographer” and I am to submit 3 pictures I’ve taken of
“bands that would interest AP readers”. I have chosen the two above of MxPx and
Strung Out for sure, but does anyone have any suggestions for the 3rd?

Please e-mail me at
jackson@punkoryan.com
Even if you don’t know me! I want to win this!
Just tell me the file name (by right clicking on the picture and selecting
Properties).  Thanks!

TARRAH updated!!!

Songs of the Day are:

Alexisonfire – polaroids of polar bears
<— this is
a sweet hardcore band. If you like Thursday where there is singing with
occasional screaming, this is screaming with occasional singing!

Alexisonfire – the kennedy curse

The Show last night was awesome! Everybody loved the McGillicuddys as well it
was good to see Untimely Demise play after a very long hiatus. The lead singer
of Another Day Down told me that they weren’t going to actually play the show
but it was because of the poster I put up on my website (see below) that they
decided too!

Another Day Down was a good opening act with lots of energy but unfortunately
the crowd didn’t feel like standing up but by the end of Untimely Demise there
was a small pit going and once The McGillicuddys came on with an accordion,
mandolin, and fiph (combined with guitar, bass, and drums of coarse!) half the
room was standing (though the room was small because it was a Monday show) and
everybody danced or at least tapped their feet to the Celtic punk.

Here are The Pictures of
The
McGillicuddys

Untimely Demise

Also there is

I was also very happy because after reading in a photography book about how
to eliminate overexposure I learned a VERY good trick.  The problem was
that the flash on my camera was too bright so when I got close to a person they
would be too bright and all of the colors would be washed out. I used to just
put my finger over half the flash but a way better trick is to just put tissue
paper over the flash and BAM now I can take pictures up close and they still
have color! = I’m happy (and I can take better pictures now and not cover up the
flash with my middle finger and always be giving the bands the finger!)

.

.

The next “Super Awesome Show” that you should go to is:

As well there are posters up for BELVEDERE with Cowpie and ummm…..yeah I
don’t remember the first band buy BELVEDERE playing at the Bassment on MAy 28th
which is also the same night as THREE INCHES OF BLOOD at Wash ‘n Slosh which
means you should try and be super cool like me and go to BOTH SHOWS because Wash
‘n Slosh shows start late and Bassment shows rarely  go past midnight…

See you there and finally : —->>   Bunnin and Tom updated (for
once!!!) + Nolto  (as always!  Isn’t he good!?)

Song of the Day is:

TIM
– Boggle
<— I really like this band because they
are fast and Canadian. Check out
www.spawnerrecords.com/
for more info on this, and other great Canadian punk!

May 12th, 2003

First off GO TO THIS SHOW!  It’s a Monday night show = Need as many
people as we can get so tell all your friends!  If you are reading this and
it is already 8 or 9 pm then still go! The show wont start till 9pm probably so
there is always time!

If you don’t like reading then just BUY THE NEW NOFX CD…otherwise read on.

I am going to inspire you to do something. That something is to BUY the new
NOFX CD and not “just burn it”.

When I was in Future Shop yesterday and saw that there was a new NOFX album
at first I thought “didn’t they break up?”  After listening to 10 seconds
of the new album entitled “The War on Errorism” I was very glad that they
didn’t.   If you were at Warped Tour last year NOFX talked a lot of
smack against George Bush but seeing as they only had a 30 min set they didn’t
go into much details as to WHY we should hate Bush.

As you can see from the cover of the CD they make a lot of fun of Bush on
this album, in fact I would say this album has the most actual meaningful lyrics
of any of their albums because they sing about something they all strongly
believe in —> stopping ignorance when it comes to politics and the media.
A very good reason why you should actually buy this CD is because it is enhanced
and has videos on it including a trailer for the movie Unprecedented  (
www.unprecedented.org ) which is a
biography on the 2000 US election and how it was rigged so that there were 175,000
ballots that were not counted, 27,000 people who were not allowed to vote
(16,000 of which vote 98% democratic) the CD is worth it just for the video on
it (you can watch a shorter video on the website but the one on the CD is longer
and better)

I know what your all thinking though…does the actual CD suck?  Has
NOFX sold out like EVERY OTHER BAND seems to and gotten
soft/lame/slow/mellow/trendy ???

THE ANSWER IS NO!!!   My ears smiled as I listened to every track
and heard that THIS IS NOFX they haven’t changed or anything, in fact they have
gotten better.   There are only two tracks that don’t really have any
meaning (they are actually about music and his favorite bands) the rest of the
tracks are what you would expect from NOFX.

Starting off with “The Separation of Church and Skate” where Fat Mike sings
“When did punk rock get so safe? / When did punk rock become tame? / These
fucking bands all sound the same / Confrontation and Politics replaced with
harmonies and shticks” being that there are so many punk bands now that just
“sing songs about girls and love / these fucking records are rated G” and no one
seems to stand for punk anymore.  Another track relating to the same topic
“Medio-core” is about “Medio-core the list keeps growin’, the melodies have been
stolen”. There are too many bands coming out “they were okay, not great, but
pretty good” and we are being forced to settle with mediocre bands, stolen
riffs, and unoriginality.

Almost all of the tracks are fast which sooths my A.D.D.  The first song
sounds like Huevous Rancheros at the beginning with super catchy bass and guitar
(what else would you expect). The song “Anarchy Camp” fed my Ska needs with
saxophone and a catchy ass tune that makes me want to dance and the title track
“American Errorists” that makes me want to mosh so bad I pray NOFX will come to
Regina (sad I say Regina before my own home city).

In conclusion of this crappy review that I didn’t put half the effort or
thought I had wanted so just take my untrusting word and  buy the fucking
CD because I know you burn too many CD’s so why don’t you support one of the
gods of punk and buy the new NOFX CD!!!   If you like NOFX I promise
you, you wont be disappointed with this new album, it is NOFX and they haven’t
changed. Come to think of it….they are the only band I can think of that
hasn’t and isn’t that reason enough?

Songs of the Day are:

NOFX –

Idiots are Taking Over

NOFX –
The
Irrationality of Rationality

I linked these
off the Official NOFX website and I assure you, these aren’t “the only good
songs on the CD”.  The whole CD is awesome so spend $13 and buy the CD!!!

May 11th, 2003

I had an awesome night at Lindsay’s Birthday click
HERE for pictures if you were there.

So I spent way to much money on this “fancy dancy” wide angle lens for my
camera and it ended up ruining half the pictures I took of
POLK and
AUTOPILOT on
Friday night :(  but ohh well I’ll figure it out.   Unfortunately
my batteries died so I wasn’t able to get pictures of Samuel The Black Shaman,
Morally Sound, or Divinity :(    I do have a

VIDEO
of Polk playing though. (sorry the sound sucks as always)

I went to the show with my friend Joel and we can both say that we were VERY
impressed with AUTOPILOT and if you get a chance to see them for sure give them
a listen because they have a grunge sound that I have so missed for too many
years.   Samuel The Black Shaman also played an acoustic set which was
very entertaining as well.  By then my Camera had died so for once I
actually just “listened and enjoyed” a band rather than worrying about f-stops
and shutter speeds when I’m taking pictures.

Polk played very good too and though I’m typically not the biggest fan of
chick bands (though there are two guys in the band) Brook’s voice was well
controlled and …

FUCKING MICROSOFT!!! ok I wrote a huge review and said tons of stuff and then
Microsoft FrontPage crashed on me so you all get NOTHING cuz I’m not typing it
again!   www.fuckmicrosoft.com

i only spew out crap from my keyboard anyways

Song of the Day is:

Sepultura – War for Territory <— isn’t even a very good
song (don’t bother listening unless you like them) but Morally Sound does an
awesome WAY BETTER cover of it.  You would already know that of course if
my review had not crashed…

i’m just bitter…me need sleep

May 8th, 2003

First off read

THIS
article. This guy got his arm trapped under a boulder for 5 days and he cut off his own freaking arm to get free!

And now for “Ryan’s Thoughts”

“Clicks”…….Remember back in high school (or if you are in high school remember now) when your school was full of clicks. Jocks, Nerds, Punks, Band, Tech Crew, SRC, Loners, etc.
We like to think we are diversive and accepting of others, yet we all naturally fall into whatever category we feel most comfortable. Back in high school I though of myself as a “floater” because I was between three different groups of friends. I didn’t want to just be with one group of people because I had so many friends in other groups.
It would be nice for everyone to just be one big happy group but thats not the way it is.
I find that University is way less “clicky” than high school, but then again, the longer you are there, the more you can fall into a certain group.
On Tuesday when I came up here (I’m still up North) the first thing we did was have lunch in the caffeteria. I found it quite funny to see how even in an adult workplace the same thing can happen. At one table was all the white Engineers and managers, at another was all the white workers, at another was all of the native workers, then there was the table where all of the woman sat, and finally there was me. The youngest person there with no “click” to sit with :(

Tomarow 4 more summer students fly in, alas I fly out the same day but I will get to work with some people my own age soon. Then I will have a click of my own to eat with.
Untill then I will just think about how interesting it is to see how people fall into groups that they feel most comfortable in (I’m not saying that I don’t understand it because it makes perfect sense why clicks happen) and how despite how “clicky” high school was, it’s not the end, it’s just a taste of how life really is.

May 7th, 2003

Where is Ryan right now?
I am about 170 miles away from the North West Teritories at McClean lake and YES I do have internet!

I am working my summer job for Cogema Uranium Mine.
Today I got MY OWN OFFICE that’s right! Ryan Jackson has his own office! It’s crazy! On the down side it is pretty lonely being up here away from all my friends, but there is plenty to keep my occupied (like working 12 hours a day) and there is the best gym facility, squash/racket ball, big screen HDTV home theater etc which is all pretty cool but right now I would trade it all for a beer with my friends. (though the 24hr kitchen is pretty sweet regardless. Last night I woke up at 2:30am and had pie and pudding!)
My boss reminds me of the guy in the movie Office Space (the main character). He is never shaven (but he’s not trying to grow a beard), and his most common phrases are: #### all, #### off, #### out, and #### it.

I will have pictures when I get back but till then:
Bunnin and Nolto and Goodman updated!

This computer has NetNanny on it which wont let me view my own freaking website so I hope this works and I’ll hopefully see you all at The Bassment on friday! Be there!

May 6th, 2003

Well tomorrow I start my summer job up north at Cogema uranium mine = I wont
be updating for 4 days :(     My job is going to be week

I almost *always* update my site with the pictures from a show the same night
so that I get it over with BUT with 4 shows in a row I made the mistake of
putting sleep before update (see yesterdays post), but I guess that was probably
a good idea!

*FINALLY* here are the pictures of

#1. The May 1st Show at The Bassment:
One Drop
Collective

Anodyne
Drinking Semen

#2. The May 2nd Show at The Bassment:

I even wrote a review of the May 2nd show but I’m going to go to bed because
these pictures took WAY too long!

Enjoy!

Well if you were SUPER COOL like me then you would have gone to The Bassment
AND Amigos tonight to see two really great shows!

I will have all of the pictures up in the next day but there is a taste
above.  Right now Ryan needs sleep so he can help Tara move tomorrow.

Also… if you like pop-punk (c’mon, admit it!)  At Amigos tonight is
Lucky 7.

May 2nd, 2003

So here are the pictures of my Bad Religion

TRIP
and
SHOW.
The
CASUALTIES
opened for Bad Religion.  Cameras weren’t allowed inside so
I had to sneak mine in “*pat pat* what’s that?  …. um…my wallet….”
I was front row for both bands but I was by the right speaker and I am near deaf
in my right ear now!  I SWEAR I will always wear ear plugs at shows from
now on because my ears have had enough concerts! (BUT I HAVEN’T!)
Bunnin also met up with us at the show and he got some really good pictures (he
was front center) so I’ll put those up later too.

I’ll have pictures of the May 1st Metal/Ska show up tomorrow.

Remember!

Go to The Bassment  on May 2nd to see Ubiquitous Midgets / The Paper
Kites / Shackleford / Conch at 7pm for $5 and then when the show is over around
11’ish you should walk to Amigos and see Polk and the Pinch at Amigos which will
start at 11pm for
another measly $5.

Think about it! Two shows in one night! What more could you want?

May 1st, 2003

So BAD RELIGION WAS AMAZING and I have a ton of pictures but I am going to
the show tonight at the Bassment (see below) so for now all I’ll say is:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TYLER! (a.k.a. NOLTO)

If you remember he doesn’t believe in celebrating peoples birthdays because
we should value peoples lives just as much every day of the year…. but I am
not him and birthdays are sweet!

“remember, your not a year older, your a year closer to death”

What do you think about this Tattoo for Brett?
Go for it!
That is by far THE gayest tattoo I have ever seen!
I could offer some suggestions on how to make it better.

If you voted for the last one then send an e-mail to

Tell him it sucks, or if your bored take the
original drawing and
make it better!  (Hey its summer, what else do you have better to do than
draw a crappy tattoo for someone to wear for the rest of their life?)

You know what you should do on May 2nd?

#1. Think back about how awesome the show at the Bassment that you went to on
May 1st was:

Saskatoon Metal Kingpins

Morally Sound

With The One Drop Collective

(Insanity straight out of British Columbia)

the newest breed of Saskatoon Screamo,

Tombstone Diaries

and Drinking Semen,

formerly known as the infamous Reeta Mckneels

plus perhaps another band, TBA

$5, All Ages, you know the rest… May 1st

#2. Go to The Bassment  on May 2nd to see Ubiquitous Midgets / The Paper
Kites / Shackleford / Conch at 7pm for $5 and then when the show is over around
11’ish you should walk to Amigos and see Polk and the Pinch at Amigos which will

Songs of the day:

Jughead’s Revenge – Tearing Down the World

Jughead’s Revenge – Perfect

April 28th, 2003

Buck sent me the pictures he took at the Voyd show so if you want to rekindle
some more memories of the awesomeness of last Thursdays show click

HERE

If you remember back in Boxing Day I bought a cell phone (going against
everything I ever used to hold sacred) for $20 and it came with 4 months of free
service. Today that service ran out…. Why didn’t I go with a plan? I promised
myself I wouldn’t get one.  4 months for $20 is good, but $32/month for a
plan is a little (lot!) steep for me!

Still…I will miss the “convenience” but I guess on the bright side I have a
sweet phone book….

If you want to be super cool and put up a couple posters yourself click
HERE.

Song of the day:

Millencolin – Dinner Dog

April 27th, 2003

What is sad is that we got new shingles put on our roof before we got a new
garage door….

Why wasn’t I at Spunk Fest or any of the other great punk shows on last
night?    1 word:
Pub Crawl!

To make up for it though I do have two songs of the day! (Thank You to Brad
for sending me Audiograbber!)

The Dingies – Rebel Youth

The Dingees – Carry on with the Countdown

Sorry I DO have a song of the day, but I can’t
find a good, free CD–>MP3 program and I wasted half an hour trying out crappy
ones that don’t work so if anyone has a program that works (i.e. cracked) please
e-mail it to jackson@punkoryan.com
(max 5 megs)

Tanis also updated!

April 25th, 2003

Ever been to a show where the band gave away about 50 CDs and free stickers
and patches at the end?  If you were at the show last night then you would
be able to say “yes…yes I did, and even though he said the CDs were $2
everyone else was grabbing them so I grabbed one too!”

Pictures of the
Voyd
farewell show with

The Paper Kites
and

Tombstone Diaries
are up!

Remember “back in the day” when I had “songs of the day” well THEY ARE BACK!
Now YOU TOO can listen to good music like I do….  (though I must thank
Brett for introducing me to this one… )

The Used – Choke Me <—- great if you
like sweet screaming hardcore

The Used – The Taste of Ink <—- great
if you like catchy music that you would never guess comes from the same band as
the above song….

#1. THE SHOW ON WEDNESDAY APRIL 23rd IS ALL AGES so COME OUT and SUPPORT
THE SCENE! (and see some good bands too!)

The Flyer is below (scroll down)

The NOT BY CHOICE show was really good! Pictures of

NOT BY CHOICE
and

FIFTH SEASON
are in the BANDS section. Another cool thing was that Louis’
had a beer garden so it was an all ages show, but people could still drink so
that was really good! The turn out was pretty big and that was good to see.
I unfortunately missed the first two opening bands but they were local so I’ll
get pictures of them next time.

I AM FINALLY DONE SCHOOL!   And there is a show almost every night
this week so there will be lots of pictures and new things to come to punkoryan!

Tonight is Gob + Swollen Members which will be a good show. If your going
I’ll see you there!   Also, I bought Gob’s new CD. I’m on my 3rd
listen and it keeps getting better. Obviously it is as mainstream as you may
expect but it is certainly well done and I think there is only one song on it
that I don’t like (as apposed to there only being one song that I DO like…)

Anyways I’d like to thank Ryan Smith (the guy who runs
www.threeohsix.org ) for giving me some
web space to hold me over till we get a new server.

Ryan and I will be going together and renting our own server to share for
www.threeohsix.org and
www.punkoryan.com so we will both have a
lot more web space and bandwidth = a lot of cool new things coming to
punkoryan.com!  I will be completely redesigning the site with new sections
and a new look….

Any Suggestions?

April 30th BAD RELIGION in Edmonton (just thought I’d point that one out
because I’m going) and YOU SHOULD GET SOME FRIENDS TOGETHER AND GO TOO!!!

I just copied all these dates from
www.threeohsix.org
so “you should go and see for yourself”, book nights off
work, get some friends together and GO TO SHOWS!

.

.

.

Speaking of that GET TO WORK!

I have been in finals all week. In Electrical Engineering our Conspiracy
Theory is that “they” deliberately put our 4 EE finals in a row (with math two
days after) because THEY WANT US TO FAIL!  There are 80 2nd year EE’s and
only room for about 50 in 3rd year apparently, so what better way to keep
classrooms small then to screw over 20 or 30 people out of their futures….
I’m just bitter…

Anyways the point of my above GET TO WORK state ment is that I am too busy to
update during finals = if you are reading this and should be studying then YOU
SHOULD GET TO WORK because of all the sites in the world you could be wasting
your time on I’m flattered that you picked mine but you should really be
studying…

unless you don’t want to… then…if your a nerd or just want to read
something interesting then go to
www.fuckmicrosoft.com/

It is a very interesting site, and be sure to read
http://www.fuckmicrosoft.com/content/whatsbad.shtml. Its “kinda”
opinionated, but they back up everything they say with proof and it wasted a lot
of my time so it should waste yours too!

My last final is on Monday…then I drink….then I sleep…..then I’ll
update again.

Till then! Wish me (and anyone you know) luck on finals! –> AND GO TO SHOWS!

April 14th, 2003

why do you mocketh me oh Lord?!!

April 15th    Closet Monster, Choke, Ghosts of Modern Man

Regina,SK

The Exchange

Choke is one of my absolute favorite bands and I have 4 finals left this
week! :( …… “oh well”

There are a lot of bands playing this week/month so check out the calendar on
www.threeohsix.org

YOU SHOULD GO!!!

April 12, 2003

Why hasn’t Ryan been updating you ask?  Well It’s finals season and I’m
a “little” busy. I have all of my finals in 1 week (less the one I wrote on
Wednesday) but I’m not going to whine, instead I am going to rant like I wish I
could do more. I yelled at all my Ranters to write though, so hopefully they
will pick up the slack where I can’t update because I’m to busy. (sure they’re
busy too, but they aren’t ME are they?)

This morning I listened to John Gormly live on 650 NTR. I love listening to
his radio show because even though I don’t always agree with his opinions, I
love that he has opinions and sticks behind them. It is easy listening to him
(as it is with any media) to be swayed towards his beliefs, but I think he does
try to keep and open mind (or at least an open phone line) to what everyone has
to say.

What I find about the John Gormly show is that it is a good way to get heated
about an issue. He always talks about interesting issues, that affect people in
Saskatchewan, and there are always at least three different topics on the go
that you can learn more about (or call).

I was going to put up a bunch of links to news articles I’ve read in the last
while that are interesting but instead I think I’ll just write my:

.

.

.

conspiracy theory of the week:

(note: Ryan’s conspiracy theories are in no way probable to being valid in
any way and should not be said, let alone read)

WE WON THE WAR! WE WON THE WAR! You will be hearing a lot of this
soon. It will be interesting to see how this whole post-war thing will turns
out. USA will be bragging forever about how what they did, and how they won
their war on terrorism (which is a double negative), but something I noticed
today was the beginning of the “now that the war is over I have a story that I
couldn’t tell till now” stories.   A ridiculous amount of innocent
people died in this (as with any) war (and funny enough a large number of the
deaths was from friendly fire but we wont get into that).

My conspiracy theory ties in with how if you watch pretty much any news
program except CBC (which brags about being unbiased but pretty much bashes the
states a little too much to be considered unbiased) you will get more pro-war
news and ideas than anti-war. By watching this media too much (or letting
yourself get sucked in) it is easy to have your own personal views on the war
swayed towards war.

Now that “the war is won” we will be seeing all of the “lets feel
good about what we did and forget about all those people that died
” stories.
I heard one today already, and in the next few weeks we will all hear tons of
“never before told stories” or “proof that the war needed to happen” and “now we
can all look back and feel good about ourselves” stories.

You will read/hear/watch them and think “Wow, that Suddam sure was an asshole”
but remember. Your thinking that because you are being fed the stories that fit
the current times to think that. Sure he is an asshole, and it is a good thing
that he’s gone, but over a thousand innocent people will have died,
billions of dollars in infrastructure will be destroyed (who’s paying for
that?), hundreds of oil wells are on fire, and not to mention all of the history
rich temples and I’m sure tons of museum artifacts that will have been lost.

As much as you will have been told that the war IS a good thing, you will be
told that the war WAS a good thing.   Pay attention to what the media
is doing, and don’t get sucked in to their bias.

End Conspiracy.

.

.

.

April 10th, 2003

I *finally* got the film pictures I took at the Set Aside reunion show
developed. I used ISO1600 film, a 28mm wide angle lens + a 0.42x fish eye lens to get the cool
fish bowl look. They turned out pretty good, but next time I’ll use ISO3200 film = even better pics!  To see all the pictures click
HERE

May I add that you should check out my new ranter
NOLTO

April 8th, 2003

would you show your support?

I saw these two flags flying above a house a block away from me today. It
made me think:  If Canada were involved (directly) in the war would you
fly a maple leaf to show support of your troops?
Why? Why not?

My family always puts up a Canadian Flag on Canada Day (and then leaves it
there until a storm knocks it down).  As stupid as Americans may be, they
are 100x more patriotic than we are.  They are proud of their country,
and here in Canada we don’t (or at least you don’t see) the same enthusiasm. If
Canada joined the coalition, I don’t think that I would see a maple leaf flying
above every house on my block. Of coarse this would be because of mixed feelings
and opinions on the war. But aside from the issues of the war, the above picture
really made me think about how these people are openly (though indirectly)
supporting their troops
.     Would you?

Welcome NOLTO to the Waste section.  (He hasn’t updated yet, but he’s
on!)

April 7th, 2003 (I know its the 6th, but I probably wont update
tomorrow)

Introducing the newest dance craze:

THE SHOWER

April 6th, 2003

Welcome TOM to the Waste section.

SO VIN DIESEL COULD HAVE DONE IT! I was reading about digital
cameras for a report I’m writing and I stumbled upon

THIS
article. Turns out, if you have a Sony Digital Video camera with “nigh
shot” and you put a special filter on it then you can see through people’s
clothes! Is that not crazy!?

Makes you think about that creepy guy with the camera is doing….

April 5th, 2003

WHERE WERE YOU? …. when the Set Aside reunion show was on?   The
show sold out in about 20 mins.  There were over 150 people there, which is
the Bassment’s maximum capacity. It sucks that it sold out and people couldn’t
get in, but its also good to see so many people coming out to a local show!
Keep it up!

All of the pictures are in the BANDS section so check out Set Aside,
Filmmaker, Every New Day, Kevin Walby from Voyd, and Static Season.

As well I actually took FILM pictures too! (that’s right, I took film pics!)
But we will have to wait till Monday for me to get those developed. *Keep your
fingers crossed that they all turned out!*

BAD RELIGION IS COMING!!!    —> Could I say anything more
exiting than ROAD TRIP !!!!?

04/29/2003 Calgary, Alberta MacEwan Hall Ballroom
04/30/2003 Edmonton, Alberta Shaw Conference Centre

That’s right!  I’d have to say that aside from “free beer”,  Road
Trip would have to be my favorite two words!

If all plans out well I’ll hopefully be going to this, and if your going too
then e-mail me and we can make it a great big convoy!

April 3rd, 2003

LEARN TO READ!

My little brother has trouble reading, and it always annoys me when he asks
me how to spell the simplest words. Today, I’ll have to eat those words…

On Tuesday I had my last two wisdom teeth pulled, the extraction went pretty
well, but they had to cut out the bottom one = extra pain killers.

I got a prescription for Tylenol 3 and popped 2 every 4 hours for the last
couple days…. needless to say, yesterday I would not have driven a car as I
was spaced out (even more so than usual) and I even stumbled here and there.
This morning I go to take another two and I actually READ the
prescription to see that I am only suppose to take 1 pill every 4 hours, and not
two.  This could explain why I felt so drugged up yesterday, and sparks
this rant.

Why don’t we read?

We skip over so much reading in our lives? We never read manuals,
prescriptions
, rules, or instructions. How many times have you not stopped
to look at a map, only to wish you had later when you are lost and have wasted
half a tank of gas?

Treat every instruction you get as if it were the instructions to your life
because if your not careful, someday they may be.

Is that not the coolest Tattoo ever!   If you don’t think so go
HERE

March 29th, 2003

I was at Gardenscape today. My Dad won the
Design Competition
and the Peoples’ Choice Award which I am pretty proud of him for.

The pictures from
Monik’s
Birthday
are up in the friends section. Aside from that… GOTO THE set
aside SHOW NEXT FRIDAY!

I have so much to say, but I don’t feel like saying anything, so you all have
to suffer for one more day!  …sleep now….zzzzzzzz

March 28th, 2003

My brother let his friend drive his truck = we have a tarp for a garage door
now!

due to VERY popular demand. the FRIENDS section
is back.  sorry I took it down. but I kinda went through a faze when I was
like “hey, there are hundreds of total strangers looking at pictures of all my
friends” but then I realized that a large majority of people tell me they like
the pictures, so their back!   I removed all the old pictures, but the
pics of the last two weekends are up including HVC!!!

Funny enough, the pictures where always there…I just didn’t link them!

March 27th, 2003

This would be a picture of Brett scratching the ball. Notice the plethora of
awesomeness……

and this kid just looks WAY to happy….

Here are some shows coming up in Regina “that you should all go to”. As well
there are way more shows coming to Saskatoon.  Not by Choice is playing at
Louis’ on April 19th and don’t forget the Set Aside show on April 4th *gasp*
THAT’S NEXT FRIDAY!

April 17th: Memorial/Aiden/Dirtbred at the State

May 17th: Dirtbred cd release with Memorial?Suffersurge/Sparky/400

Strong/Dirtbred

May 8th: Bigwig/Planet Smashers/Belvedere/Big D and the Kids Table… at the

Exchange

May 22nd: Death By Stereo/Nicotene/Downway @ the U of R

May 29th: Strapping Young Lad/Dirtbred/The Orchard/Memorial at the Exchange.

Another show that we’re waiting on is Soulfly/Otep/Dirtbred @ the U of R on

April 24th…

March 26th, 2003

I took this picture Saturday night of my friend Kyle doing a back flip off a
tree. He ran at it and kicked off backwards. FREAKING CRAZY!

Your probably wondering “Why hasn’t Ryan updated in so long?”  “is he
sick?” “is he dead?” “has he *gasp* run out of things to say?”

HAHAH no!  I have just been busy with “other things”. The thing is that
the other things aren’t really that important, and that sparks a rant which I
didn’t even intend on writing…

why do we waste time? I hate wasting time. Though I am probably
one of the biggest time wasters you will ever meet. Take this website for
instance. I have spent COUNTLESS hours working on it, and I really enjoy running
it and getting e-mails from total strangers telling me they like my site,
however, being in school I do have “better things to do”  Strange
enough though, I update my website mostly when I should be doing more important
things. For an example, during midterms, or something important I update like
every day, but then once I have a week long break, or a few days break from
school, I don’t update at all… we all waste time when we shouldn’t. I could
say that it is human nature, but that would just be a cop-out for being lazy.
For some reason life is more exiting when it sucks. For instance, during
midterms/finals EVERYTHING non-school related seems super
interesting…like 1000x more interesting than school….and I (and my friends I
know (and you too?!)) will waste time reading some magazine, or watching some
movie, or doing something irrelevant when I should be studying…BUT then the
second I am done school and actually have time to do everything I
want….I do nothing.

It seems time is wasted no matter what we do.  If we should be
productive, we waste our time being unproductive. If we have time to do whatever
we want, we waste our time being lazy and not doing the things that we would die
to do when we should be doing better things.  Of coarse as I write this I
should be working on a project I have for a class, but here I am…wasting time
writing about wasting time so that YOU can waste time reading about it.

GET BACK TO WORK!

If you like wasting time, and haven’t checked out Strong Bad’s E-mails then
go HERE and watch
“dragon”, “new hands”, “techno”, and all of them!

March 24th, 2003

Wow 4 days without updating!  I was busy all weekend with the HVC
Charity Hockey tournament. I am the photo director for Electrical Engineering
and between Friday and Saturday I took 600 pictures in 36 hours! (A new record!
haha).

Anyways, I have much to say, but not much time to say it because I need to
sleep, but I will have a nifty rant for you tomorrow and for the time being
check out these pictures I took on Saturday from
atop a parkade downtown.

March 20th, 2003

I have a huge Computer Science assignment due so no update from me but..

BUNNIN updated!

March 19th, 2003

Did anyone ever see the “House Hippo” commercial?  If not,
WATCH IT it is freaking hilarious and
proves a point that you shouldn’t believe everything you see on TV…. though I
wish they were real :(

March 18th, 2003

Today’s rant is about how you should register a membership on
www.threeohsix.org .  There are
over 637 people that are registered as users on threeohsix (as of tonight) which
I think is great because it brings so many music lovers in Saskatchewan
together. Everyone can talk on forums and see when shows are going on (and see
links to my webpage 😉   One thing I don’t understand though is why
there are so many “Guests” on threeohsix whenever I log on.  There are of
coarse some hardcore users who have like 400 forum posts and that is great, but
why aren’t those “guests” registering?  Are you just a “guest” ?

Why don’t you register right
HERE
right now!?  What sparked this rant was my friend Riley when I
told him he should check out the calendar on threeohsix and he is like ” I’ve
been there, but don’t you have to register or something?”  SO WHAT?
It doesn’t cost anything. I REPEAT: IT DOESN’T COST ANYTHING!  It just
makes you an individual, and you can read and write on the forums about shows,
and have access to more of the site. As well girls will start to like you if
your a guy, and that cute boy you have a crush on will as you out if your a girl
so GO REGISTER NOW!

‘Tis sad that I must resort to pictures of bunnies I took at the U of R last
week when I saw Snapcase for my pictures of the day, but they are soooo cute!

I put three new pictures of Saskatoon in the PHOTOS section.

GOODMAN updated his first rant today and I
must say it is REALLY good. Thank you Kirk, that is exactly what I
wanted!  Also Kirk recomends you check out BBC
Radio 1 which is the
best streaming radio you will find anywhere. It plays every kind of music 24-7
and you can listen to prerecorded shows so pretty much any time of the day you
can listen to whatever you want.  I recommend “The Lockup” which is the
punk show. They play killer music and interview every awesome band so read
Kirk’s rant and check out BBC
Radio 1 !

TANIS also updated so check that out. + NOT
BY CHOICE @ Louis’ April 19th!

In other news….who watched Bush do his “we’re going to war” speech tonight?
I would have to say that he did it very well. So well that by the end of it I
was like “Hey, its a good thing that the US is doing this. GO THEM!” and then
after I watched all of the commentaries on Bush’s speech and what not. I got
really into the whole war thing, and for some reason had forgotten all of the
negatives that this will bring…Did anyone else stop and think about this too?

CTV news interviewed a dozen important people, from military, to parliament,
to university professors and they all talked about US’s, or Canada’s side, or
Britain’s side, but for one interview they actually talked to an Iraqi-Canadian
about how he felt. What he had to say completely changed me around on how I feel
about this whole thing. Basically he was in Desert Storm back in ’92 and he said
that Bush’s speech tonight was basically the exact thing that old Bush said back
in ’92. Saying how there is not intent to hurt the Iraqi people, except that
estimates are at 500,000 possible casualties if war breaks out.   No
matter what happens, a lot of people will die over there. However after about a
minute of this man talking about all of the negatives to war and how “this
happened before and hurt more than helped” he was cut off so they could talk to
some other person who was going to talk about WAR and not, how bad war will be.

I’m saying all of this to you for this reason:  DON’T BELIEVE EVERYTHING
YOU SEE ON CNN!   I often wish that I got TV channels from other
countries. I think it would be neat to see what the news reporters are saying in
Iraq or Africa, or Japan, or Greenland. I wonder what the people in Iraq were
hearing when Bush’s message was translated and played over their radios and
TV’s. Do you think the message was translated 100% or do you think anything was
cut/added?  What do you think is cut/added from what we see?

As I said above with the Iraqi-Canadian only getting a minute of time to talk
about the negatives of war on Iraq, you are going to get a very PRO-(or if not
pro, then WILLGOALLONGWITH)-War media right now, simply because war makes news
and so that’s all your going to hear about. You will be lucky if you hear much
about the negatives of this war until after it is all over, unfortunately that
is the way our society seems to go with these things. But remember to keep an
open mind on this whole thing and don’t just sit around and watch CNN all day,
or else you will be brainwashed into wanting this war to happen as much as Bush
does…..

“CNN brainwashed me back in 9/11. What is it doing now?”

March 16th, 2003

I picked up the new AFI cd yesterday and all I can say is GO BUY THIS CD!
Amazingly enough it is only $8.99 at Future Shop too!

BUNNIN wrote a very “wordy” review and if I
had time I would do one too, but in not so many words all I can say is:

YES – The cd is different from their other stuff. If this comes to you as a
surprise then obviously you have never bought more than one album of a band
before because no two albums sound the same with any band, they always change.
Sure its not always for the better, but its change and we all have to accept
that.

NO – The cd does not suck. It is really good. I have heard some people knock the
new album because it sounds so much different, but it is still AFI and even
though it is a bit slower, there are still faster hardcore songs and if you love
Davey’s voice then you will love this cd because there is heavy emphasis on his
voice which I love.

NO – you shouldn’t just “download the cd” because it is only $8.99 at Future
Shop ( $9.99 at HMV ) and the album insert, lyrics, and booklet are all super
nice, as well you get a card that gives you access to “the secret AFI website”
with even more sound and video of the cd. Finally, I would have to say the
actual cd itself has the nicest label on it I have seen since KoRn: Follow the
Leader. It’s worth buying the cd just to see the artwork on the cd label.

YES – I have listened to the cd more than once and it gets better every time.

YES – There is a secret track bringing the cd to 13 tracks and 59 minutes
(THAT’S ALMOST AN HOUR!!!) for only $8.99

YES – There are two different cd covers and you have to decide or buy one of
each like me! (ones a present, but it was cool to buy both :)

NO – It has not left my cd player since I got it.

YES – I’m done now.

Wish me luck on my midterm!

The Pinch and The Paper Kites were amazing!  If you were there, the
pictures are in the BANDS section. If you weren’t be sure to go see both of
these bands the next time they play because WOW!

In other news BUNNIN and
TARRAH updated, and both their rants are
VERY good so check them out!  Remember, if you don’t see anything new,
click REFRESH.

I’m off to sleep and then study for a math test that I will for surely fail
:*(

March 13th, 2003

Pictures of Snapcase, Juliana Theory, and Hopesfall are in the BANDS section
now so check them out!

Also I have gotten a HUGE response from people wanting to help out the scene
which is great!

How can you do your part? GO TO:

I’ll be there AND SO SHOULD YOU AND ALL YOUR FRIENDS!!!

March 12, 2003

I got a lot of positive responses about my last rant and I think that is
great to hear!  I hope there are a lot more people who want to help out the
scene.  Speaking of that, Peter Jelinski of

Surreal Productions (the company that usually puts on all the big shows)
e-mailed me with this:

” I was reading your section about why Regina gets more shows than Saskatoon

and I hope you don’t mind but I’d like to share my take on the situation.

Plain and simple, it comes down to paying the bills and Saskatoon has a

tough time getting enough people out to cover the expenses for a show.  In

a lot of cases travel isn’t really an issue.  Take the Fat Tour and

Snapcase, both bands we’re traveling from Edmonton and drove right on

through Saskatoon.  I know for a fact both tours were interested in

playing your city.

The stupid thing is it doesn’t make sense why Saskatoon, being the bigger

city and IMHO the cooler city, has so much  trouble getting enough people

out to shows.  You’ve got a big college and an active music scene but

people just don’t come out in the numbers they do in Regina.
Also when

it comes to purchasing advance tickets Saskatoon drags way behind the rest

of Western Canada.   When that happens agents and bands get scared
then

figure no one cares,  I’ve talked with a number of people who hate to feel

that way but in reality have no choice.  Bands WANT to play Saskatoon

unfortunately it’s just not economically feasible in most cases to do so.

For example we did the Strung Out/Snapcase show last summer in both Regina

and Saskatoon.  The ticket price was exactly the same for both shows yet

in Saskatoon we had 320 people compared to 650 in Regina.  Saskatoon was

the only date on the entire 13 city Canadian tour that did not sell out.

We were offered a chance to do the Snapcase/Juliana Theory show in

Saskatoon but we had to turn it down.  We would have needed more people to

break even (about 400) and we honestly didn’t feel Saskatoon could do it.

Now, having said that I’m as excited as you about threeohsix.org and sites

like yours doing things to promote live music in Saskatoon.  We would
love

the opportunity to bring bigger shows to Saskatoon and if we knew we could

get the type of crowds we get in Regina we wouldn’t hesitate for one

second.  Keep up the great work with the site and promoting the
scene!!! ”

Now after reading that, I am even more inspired to make it my mission to make
the Saskatoon scene as big as Regina’s. As you read, its not the bands fault,
its the fact that we need to get more people out to shows. With that
said, if you haven’t read Mondays Rant (below) then do so!

Otherwise the joke of the day :

“What is a Dinosaur’s favourite book? …… thesaurus ”
<— I made that up on the bus on the way to school today. At this rate I’m
going to be rich someday! :)

March 10th, 2003

There have been A LOT of shows lately = a lot of pictures. This is
really good for my site because it means the BANDS section of my website is
getting larger and larger, but on the downside, with all of these pictures
taking up my updates, I have been neglecting MY rants. Though I have been
thinking up a lot to say, and I will say it on the days when I have nothing else
to post.  With that said, here is my rant of the day.

why doesn’t everybody go to shows? I have
been going to punk shows since grade 10 when I saw Reel Big Fish and The
Portmans at Louis’ which would be my first “real” show. Since then my music
tastes changed and grew and I discovered a lot of great local Saskatoon (and non
Saskatoon) bands. I had some really great friends who always wanted to go to
shows with me.  Pretty much every show at the Bassment that went on, Murphy
and I went to. Even if we didn’t really like the bands, just because “it was a
show” and we wanted to go.  I remember “back in the day” (though not that
long ago really) when there were shows at “The Pit” and even who knows how long
ago when it seemed Louis’ got tons of cool bands to play. (What happened
there???!!!)

the point of this rant is this picture:

I took that picture at the Fat Wreck Chords Tour last Thursday in Regina, now
to the right of the picture is the stage, you can see the pit (which is larger
than the turnout of far to many Bassment shows) and to the left is even more
people that didn’t fit in the picture because THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE!
Why does Regina get all the good shows? you ask. Well for one thing The
#1 highway goes through Regina so its always on the path of a cross Canada tour
whereas Saskatoon would be a 6 hour out-of-the-way drive to play a show where
there may not even be an audience.

Now if you’ve been to the “big shows” in Saskatoon:  Propagandhi, Strung
Out, and AFI then you know that “the big bands” can draw a surprising crowd
which is awesome to see. But what about all the other shows?  Saskatoon
needs to prove itself!  I have seen the scene grow lately.  There are
more and more bands, and there have been more and more shows. I thank Ryan Smith
for creating www.threeohsix.org because
it brings a lot of music lovers together and creates awareness of shows going
on.  But we need more people out to shows.  Too many times I
have been to shows when there are more band members than audience. (the last
TWO
times Downway has played here comes to mind right away)

What are you doing Friday night? This is what I hear every week
and when there is a show going on I always say “going to a show, you should
come”. Unfortunately, 9 times out of 10 I get a response like “we might show up,
we’re going to see whets going on first”. THE SHOW IS WHAT’S GOING ON.
There will always be something else happening. But that doesn’t mean
going to a show has to be at the bottom of the list!

want to get drunk? The Bassment is one of the only THREE
places in Saskatchewan that are allowed to have Licensed/All Ages Shows. This is
a privilege, not a right. But it is a very good privilege. The Bassment is
downtown, and I always say that if you were planning on “going to the bar” on
Friday or Saturday night why don’t you catch some great local music and then
walk to one of the bars downtown?  This doesn’t mean you can get shit faced
and make an ass of yourself,  but there is always a way to get the best
of both worlds
so don’t miss out on a show just because you may have
something better to do. Try to do both!   Great parties etc never
really get going till 11pm and WOW that’s about the same time shows end
typically!  “Don’t miss out on something great while waiting for
something great to happen”

If you go, more will come.   Saskatoon has a larger
population than Regina, yet a quote from my friend Adam last week in Regina
“Regina has a bigger Saskatoon scene than Saskatoon does”. We saw so many people
from Saskatoon in Regina which was great. But the question is: “If we got a show
like The Fat Wreck Chords Tour in Saskatoon, could our turn out be as big as
Regina’s?”  I think in time it could be, but we need to prove ourselves in
order to get shows like that to come here!  If more people to come out to
shows and show their support of what’s going on here,  what’s going
on there will come here too!  I’m trying to do my part by going to
shows, and encouraging shows with this website, but what can you do!? If
you have a band, talk on threeohsix and talk to Ryan Drabble and try to get a
show going. Whenever there is a show TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS! (AND ACTUALLY GET
THEM TO COME!),
if you are putting on a show ADVERTISE and e-mail a
poster to me ( jackson@punkoryan.com
) and put the poster on threeohsix for people to print off and put up at their
school/work/local lamp post, DO YOUR PART and try to help out. If you go
to threeohsix you’ll see a record amount of shows going on this month which is
awesome. Lets try to keep this going and get a scene, so big, and so close, that
it will be worth the 6 hour out-of-the-way drive.  Finally, if you
don’t know what to do, then go back to the beginning of this rant and read it
over again!

“or you could just do nothing like everyone else”

call that your “security blanket” because it always made you feel safe and you
never wanted to be without it etc…….well Brett is the same with his jacket.
He never takes it off and we bug the hell out of him for it.

Here’s an illustration:

yes you should e-mail to the second one because its funnier that way…)

so you guys (and girls) may have to go a day without an update from me *gasp*
I’m going to Regina on Thursday night to see The Fat Wrech Chords Tour and
probably wont get back till 2am = no pictures till Saturday because there is
another show on Friday night (see below), but on the bright side, come Saturday

of Rise Against….but you know….) so be sure to check in then!

HOWEVER it may be worth your while to check the BUNNIN section
tomorrow he e-mailed me tonight and  “Its coming on Thursday, trust me.

Anyways, me sleep now, but all I have left to say is GO TO THE SHOW ON FRIDAY

March 4th, 2003

Well if you weren’t at the show then you certainly missed out because
it was soooo good!  Holy Crap!  Anyways, I took about 80 pics so above
is a taste, and I will have them all up Tuesday night.

March 3rd, 2003

You know if you abbreviated the date today it would be 03/03/03 ! Isn’t that
cool!!!!….well I think it is!

set aside saved me $300!…..so last night I talked to Bunnin for 40
mins on the phone from Victoria and we talked about how he’s going to be
updating his part of the website AND he told me that I should fly there to visit
him because AFI is playing in Seattle on April 4th!!!  I am SOOOO tempted
because plane tickets would only be $300 and I could eat and sleep for
free…BUT #1.  Edmonton trip cost A LOT of money and #2. THE set aside
REUNION SHOW IS APRIL 4th!!!  …. but I “could” go….but I’ll stay to see
the set aside show and save $300….. *snivel*

So tonight:

Monday March 3rd – The Reason, Shackleford, Richard Marshal Division @ The
Bassment  doors 7:30pm

I’m getting my homework done RIGHT NOW (well when I’m done writing this) and
going so YOU BETTER BE THERE TOO! (whoever you are…)

Pics wont be up till tomorrow though because I have a midterm on Tuesday so
you’ll all have to wait…  *tears*

March 2nd, 2003

So tonight I went to see
Breach of Trust
at Wash ‘n Slosh and wow. They were good. Sorry I don’t have time to write a
super fancy review like last night, but I can for sure say that you should check
this band out because they are amazing!  Click
HERE for
pictures.

In other news:

IT WORKED IT WORKED IT WORKED IT WORKED! So by taking off
the Bunnin section, Shawn finally got off his ass and started writing = The
BUNNIN section
is back!  He has been trying to call me almost every day for the last week
and then tonight he e-mailed me “promising to update twice a week”. Well Bunnin,
I can say that you do have some interesting things so say…but YOU HAVE TO SAY
THEM IN ORDER TO BE INTERESTING!  So as long as you keep updating = BUNNIN
section stays.

Funny enough, at the same time as the BUNNIN
section returns the
TARRAH section opens.  Welcome
Tarrah, and you better not suck! because “the people” demand the best!

I gotta sleep and then study tomorrow. Enjoy the pictures!

March 1st, 2003.

*** I added some VIDEOS to the story if you’ve already read it. So
watch them!

If you haven’t been here in a few days then check out
February Ramblings to see what you missed!

It was my first time seeing a show at the Wash ‘n Slosh and it certainly wont
be my last! In the last few years I have gone to countless shows at the
Bassment, Sid’s Garage, and “back in the day” at The Pit. But I always wondered
“if there is this punk scene that I’m always with….is there a metal scene?”
I hadn’t heard, or even heard-of any Saskatoon metal bands, but a couple or more
years ago I went to a show at the Bassment and the opening Band was SPARKY.
I was quite impressed with their covers of System of a Down and Deftones and
thought to myself about how good it was to hear “happy metal” as Sparky calls
themselves from a Saskatoon band.  As time went on I discovered other bands
like Morally Sound and New Jacobin Club, and realized that there is more than
just this “punk scene” and there is other music going on too…but where?
I’m sure there are lots of places, I’ve just never heard of them, or saw any
posters for them. But tonight it all changed. I saw Sparky play with The Farkus
Affair, and Dirtbred at Wash ‘n Slosh and my eyes and ears smiled to see and
hear a different world….

It was Sparky’s CD release show for their first album “Seagull Meat.”  I
got an early copy of the album back when they played at Louis’ in early February
and absolutely loved it. Thanks to Sparky, and Morally Sound opening my eyes to
the metal that’s always been there waiting, I went to the Wash ‘n Slosh with my
friend Tera and had an evening that shall start a new era “shows” for me.

As I walked into the front doors of Wash ‘n Slosh I was relieved to see that
there is a stairwell that leads to a basement. I was worried that the Wash ‘n
Slosh was only as big as the storefront on Broadway appears; about 20 feet wide
and only one door.   The stairwell led down in a “downstairs bar”
complete with Laundromat (of coarse).  I was delighted to see posters for
upcoming metal shows all over the walls, and on our table was a paper with 10
upcoming shows in the month of March. ALL METAL!  There actually was a
metal scene, (or at least metal bands playing) in Saskatoon!

I resisted the urge to buy a cheap beer from the tub at the front door and
Tera and I sat down.  Of coarse we picked the table closest to the speakers
which gave us a good view of the stage, but my ears are sure regretting our
location now!  Tera and I didn’t know anyone there, and at the table next
to us there was a girl who appeared to be in the same situation as us, so we
invited her over and we all chatted while we waited for the first band to come
on.

Slipknot was playing in the background and at the next table over there was a
group of guys sitting down. One of them had drum sticks and was “air drumming”
perfectly to every Slipknot song that was played over the PA.   After
a couple more songs, the guys got up and went on stage. They were the first
band!  I was exited for the show to be beginning, but unfortunately they
were only doing a sound check. They played one song and by the end of it my jaw
had dropped. After some final adjustments to the sound system the band went back
on stage an my real evening began.

The band was The Farkus Affair (
www.thefarkusaffair.com
). They said they were from “Deadmonton” (Edmonton if you didn’t get that) and
after one song I was hooked.  The lead singer Art Szabo with his long
dreads reminded me of Jonathan Davis as he arched himself backwards and screamed
perfectly in a way I could only compare to the lead singer of  Pantera.
Art screamed (and sang of coarse) with perfect clarity, no distortion, or
cracking of his voice at all. I was very impressed by this and listened on as
the bands songs ranged from hard-driving to speed-metal in an instant.
Click

HERE
and

HERE
for two videos of them performing the song “cataract” (sorry the sound
sucks). The only thing equal to the sound of the band, was the contents of the
lyrics. As much as I love metal, the lyrics of many metal bands all too often
lack content or message. The songs I heard tonight though, actually had emotion
and meaning behind them. Half way though the set Art stopped to tell the
Audience that if they would like to know more about the lyrics to read a set of
books that he recommends. Of coarse I forgot what the book was, but I’ll be sure
to look into it later.  As The Farkus Affair’s set came to and end I was
disappointed to see them end, but talked to the lead singer after and bought
their demo cd with three tracks on it for $6.

More and more people arrived at the show about this time, and I told everyone
I knew as they came in that they should have come earlier because of what they
missed. But it was still okay because there were still two more bands to come!

The next band up was Dirtbred from Regina. I had heard of the band before
from www.threeohsix.org but had never
seen them play.  There was a guy walking around the place with a mohawk and
his face painted like a skull before the show started and I felt it safe to
assume that he was in one of the bands. Of coarse I was right. He was the bass
player, and when the whole band went on stage, with their long metal-head haired
lead singer, I figured that this Regina metal band had something good in store.
After two songs the drummer broke the freaking bass drum!  Having never
seen that happen before, I knew that this band had something good in
store. It sure was the case as they played music that ranged from so many
different types of metal I couldn’t even compare it to anything.  Once
again I was very impressed with the vocals of the lead singer, and the overall
sound of the band fell into my always favorite “typical death metal” sound of
the double kick drum and not being able to make out a single word that the
singer screams.   What the band added to the “stereotypical death
metal sound” was the most energy and showmanship I have ever seen in a live
metal band. (Aside from when I saw Pantera live of coarse cuz well c’mon!)
After the first song the bass player told everyone “we like being close to the
audience” and the floor in front of the stage became in instant mosh pit.
Several people came up to the band between songs and shook their hands saying
“we came from Regina to see you.”   As their set went on they became
more and more energetic and the songs got harder and faster as they went.
It was interesting to watch as every persons’ head bobbed to the sound of the
guitar and you could see everyone tapping their feet or their hands to the
drums. The mosh pit was wild with everyone head banding and thrashing around.
(Click

HERE
for a video).   Finally their set same to an end, but I knew
that this would not be the last time that I would hear them because they are
definitely worth going to see again.

Around 12:30am Sparky came on stage. Being their first CD release show; they
had advertised on threeohsix  “If you go to any of these Sparky shows, make
it this one” and I’m glad I did.   I had listened to their album a lot
in the last month, and I was really familiar with the sound of each song.
Undoubtedly, when it comes to Sparky live, they are twice as good live than
recorded, and if you’ve heard their album that is saying a lot!  Nealz
voice on every song was perfectly clear and you could make out every word he
sung, as well everything he screamed. ( Unless you’re not suppose to understand
what he’s screaming. (As it should be!).

Every song invoked a huge crowd response with the mosh pit going through
their entire set and the band not even going one song without jumping, turning,
head banging, and screaming with undying energy. The energy passed on to the
crowd with the second last song being a cover and Sparky getting one of the
audience members that had come up from Regina to come on stage with them to
sing.  By the time they were done their last song, they had played almost
every song on their new cd (which they were selling for only $13) and several of
their new songs.  They also covered Slayer,  System of a Down (click

HERE
for a video), and their own rendition of the dance mix ’92 song
“Unbelievable”.   If you missed this show, then make a a strong effort
to go to their next show because I promise you that you wont be disappointed!

Bar far this was Sparky’s best show and I am looking forward to the next time
they play, as well as going to as many of the “metal shows” at Wash ‘n Slosh as
I can. For I have finally found what I was wondering if even existed….local
metal shows!

Click on the BANDS section to see all the
pictures of
The Farkus Affair,
Dirtbred, and
Sparky.  And there are Videos of
the show in the text above.

what’s in your cereal? remember back in the day when you would
get a toy or something cool in the cereal box (or you would accidentally eat
it…but that’s a story best left untold)

well now cereal companies are including FREAKING DVD’S in cereal boxes.
(click

HERE
for a news article). But yeah…isn’t that crazy!?  Like I can
understand with the way things are going now-a-days, but like last year I saw
CD-ROMs with computer games in cereal boxes and I thought that was kind of
“assuming that everyone has a computer”. And now “we assume that everyone has a
DVD player” Now sure you can get DVD players at Wall-Mart for $89 now, and I was
amazed to see a 2.0GHz HP computer on sale at Future Shop for $849 on Sunday,
but all this has got to make you think about the way the world (or at least our
capitalist buy buy buy want want want side of the world) is going that there are
DVD’s in cereal boxes now!

February 25th, 2003

my alarming stupidity was at its peak last week when a friend at work told me
to touch two metal plates in the freezer in the back of Mc.Donalds. “It’s going
to shock me isn’t it?” Well *of coarse* I touched the metal and got an
electric shock. The screw for the light fixture was in too far and had gone into
a 120v wire!  But what’s sad is that I don’t stop at there. I touched it
again… and again…. I am in Electrical Engineering and tomorrow night I write
a test on occupational health and safety where we learned how dangerous an
electric shock can be…but still I picked up two long metal rods (one in each
hand) and touched it again which gave me a huge shock and caused my hands to
shake for the next hour. Why did I do this?  Why do we do anything
stupid?
I know how dangerous it is. I know how dangerous it is to
drive during a snow storm, but I still go out and risk crashing my vehicle. I
know how unhealthy it is to go two days without sleep, but I still do it and
wind up getting sick… I guess the answer could be that life would be boring
if we didn’t take risks
. I guess there isn’t even any point to writing this
because we all know this, but the question of the day is to ask yourself
“what risks do I take in my every day life that make it more
interesting/better? and what risks do I avoid taking that are holding me back
from what I want to do in my life?
”    I always hate when I
chicken out on asking a girl out to coffee, or not doing a drop on my bike, or
asking someone for help in school. That’s why I always “just do it”
without thinking (i.e. grabbing two metal rods and touching 120v wire). But it
seems I (we) waste our risk taking’ness on stupid things rather than something
that will better our lives. what are you chickening out on right now?

song
of the day
is “21 Guns” by Good Riddance.  The song doesn’t
really do the band justice for how awesome they are, but listen to it a couple
times and you’ll appreciate it.

February 24th, 2003

I spent 8 hours in total finding pictures, doing a photo shoot of Chris, and
making THESE PICTURES = DILLER
OWES ME A LOT OF BEER
! but I think they all turned out pretty good and he
better win!

I have a huge list of things to rant about, and I’ve been meaning to put them
down…but then I went to Edmonton, but don’t worry. I have lots coming “to make
you think” and ALSO BIG NEWS for punkoryan.com as you all know the
BUNNIN
section is gone, but a new section THAT WILL ACTUALLY BE UPDATED will
be up this week!  It will be the TARRAH section and as long as it
doesn’t suck (it better not Tarrah!) it should help make this site more
interesting. (than it already is of coarse!)

song of the day

“the trick is to keep breathing” by Garbage.  I know, I know, its not punk,
but its been stuck in my head all day so you all have to suffer!!! *evil laugh*

February 23rd, 2003

THIS video!

I worked 5:30am – 5pm today with a half hour break to run from Mc.D’s to
Future Shop. I am so tired. yet I’m about to go out…why? CUZ ITS SPRING
BREAK!!!!

Anyways, song of the day you ask? Well I already have one for the 14th so HA!

I also deleted the BUNNIN section? Why? Because if YOU WONT UPDATE THEN WHY
IS IT THERE!!!!  (<— I’m assuming he’s reading this…)

your welcome! -Ryan

song of the day
is “Your Shadow” by Waterdown <–if you like hardcore

Me
” which is another one of their best songs!

February 15th, 2003

So my valentine (the 26 of vodka) was sweet! We went to Montana’s  and
Brett and I split the HUGE nachos but I don’t really remember eating them (or
pretty much anything from that portion of the night)

BUT after we went to the Skuzz and the band
FULL TILT played and they were
really good so go check out the pictures.

song of the day
is “Underground Network” by Anti-Flag …. yeah
that’s right!  The same band two days in a row! Well you know what!? They
are both awesome songs!

February 14th, 2003 —> You know who my valentine is? a 26 of vodka!

I can’t emphasize enough how much you have to goto
http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail.html
and watch “dragon” followed by
every other e-mail because they are hilarious!

You know who my valentine is? a 26 of vodka!

ITS OVER! MIDTERMS ARE OVER!!! This week was hell, but I can finally drink,
sleep, and “do nothing” (eg. this website)

the
song
of the day
is “Die for your government” by Anti-Flag

February 13th, 2003

This was drawn on a desk in the Engineering library…. I AGREE!!!

Its 4:23am. I *just* finished (well HA! I didn’t even finish it…)…I just
“handed in” my Computer Science assignment. and I’m going to go to sleep now…

song of the day
is “The Peoples Song” by BELVEDERE –>
www.belvederepunk.com

I  moved all the January ramblings into a separate file so the main page
doesn’t take so long to load. Scroll down to the very bottom and you can read
Nov, Dec, and January’s rants.

February 11th, 2003

so now for the story behind the band by a thread. (see Feb8th rant):

it all starts back in grade 10 when I ordered a gob t-shirt from
www.landspeedrecords.com I
bought the white t-shirt with a blue toilet on it and it said
gob
and was only $12!  After months of waiting I was afraid that
I must have got ripped off so I e-mailed the mail order place and apparently (or
excuse-ingly) a bag of mail had been stolen from them “surprisingly” the same
time that I had sent in my order. So they sent me the shirt, along with another
gob shirt that I bought, and for all the hassle
they threw in 2 free cd’s and a bunch of stickers too! Now my friend Tarrah at
this same time had also ordered a gob tank-top and
her order had been lost too. So she got pretty much the same “sorry we screwed
up” care package of free stickers and cd’s.

(new paragraph) <– so that you know that it is a new paragraph incase you
didn’t notice the space between these two blocks of sentences. Amongst the free
items was a cd cover (you know the thing that goes in the jewel case with the
lyrics in it and stuiff) for by a thread‘s cd…but no cd…just the
cover!  So, about 3 years after all this, Tarrah decided to check out by
a thread
(because she already has their cd cover) and they turned out to be
a crazy awesome band. So the moral of the story is “when writing
gob
always use bold letters and 18pt.
font.)

wish me luck on the rest of my midterms! My REAL birthday will be this
weekend! = super awesome-fun time.

song of the day
is “Match Book” by Strung Out don’t
really need any introduction to this band, but if you have never heard of them
then be sure too!

February 10th, 2003

completely un-punk related Andrew got a beagle!!! It’s only 1 month
old and sleeps a lot…

…so then I guess to make up for having a freaking puppy (though its sooo
cute!) on my rant today I will have to make up for it with a
HARDCORE SONG OF THE DAY

it is called “Half-Life” by the band [minus]. If you like grind then
checkout their song “chimera”.

February 9th, 2003

as you all know I am a super lame-o and was studying today, but my
brother did go to the Battle of the Bands and took some
PICTURES. Sorry, I don’t know who any
of the bands are or anything, but you don’t care anyways do you? (unless you are
one of the bands… then e-mail
jackson@punkoryan.com
and I’ll put your name beside them…

Tarrah sweet talked me into putting
TARRAH’S SONG OF THE
DAY
on my website so here it is: “Diamonds and Guns” by The
Transplants

February 8th, 2003

must….resist….urge…… this switch is like a button that
says “do not push”. Turns out its just a bloody light switch!

So tonight being super cool as I am, I was at school till about 1:30am being
a good littl’ student and studying, but around 11pm Brett and I went
adventuring
in the basement of the Engineering building <–click for pictures! Also, seeing as
in a week I will have a week long break (minus 4 days in Edmonton…) so I think
in that time I will make a Punk-O-Ryan version 3.0 website….

Any suggestions? —> e-mail:
jackson@punkoryan.com

any ideas will be appreciated, I’m not going to do any forums or anything cuz
there’s www.threeohsix.org for
that. But last month 164 different people visited this site (which I
think is crazy!) so someone has to have an idea….but yeah….I’m just
rambling…so e-mail me.

speaking of websites, go here –>
http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail.html
and watch the e-mail
(cartoon) “website” , and then if you already haven’t, watch “dragon”, “new
hands”, “island”, “Japanese cartoon”, “guitar”, and well…if you are bored, or
just don’t want to study like me, watch them all because they are hilarious!

Finally THE SONG OF THE
DAY
! “Surface” by the band By a thread
I actually have a super long story about this song, but you’ll have to come back
tomorrow to hear it. Sleep time!

February 7th, 2003

So had I time, I would write a super long rant about turning 20 and “better
days gone by” bla bla bla, but instead I will ‘just whine about how I have 5
midterms next week…but no I won’t even do that.

I’ll just say THANK YOU to all those who wished me happy birthday
and I’m too lazy to give you a picture of the day, but I will tell you once
again to go to the Battle of the bands on Saturday at Wheatland building and
tell you to listen to THE SONG
OF THE DAY
!  punkoryan.com just got a huge face lift in web space and
bandwidth, so now I can have cool things like “songs you should listen to”
so download THIS SONG. It
is called “Lemonade” and is performed by the band Tsunami Bomb.
Listen to it. If you like it check out their other stuff and BUY THEIR CD! If
not, come back later for more songs that if you listen to you will be cool like
me :)

February 6th, 2003

Happy Birthday to me!

I won’t be updating much in the next week because I have midterms. But there
is a battle of the bands going on this weekend at the U of S so you should go
check that out! In fact, there are quite a few shows going on in this next
week…but…alas… I have to study = not fail my midterms so until then goto
www.threeohsix.org and check out
all the new shows coming!

Also check out
http://www.homestarrunner.com/
its pretty funny, especially these
cartoons
http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail.html
be sure to watch “dragon”

February 4th, 2003 (I’m only a teenager for 2 more days!!!!)

what I learned today… so I’m walking with my friend Andrew today at
school and I say “you know what bugs me? 4th year Engineers (i.e. almost full
grown men) who still wear snow boots to school! (and in and around school as
well)  Why don’t they leave them at home back in the 4th grade?!”  Now
I can say this to many people and they will agree with me that its “totally not
cool to wear snow boots to school anymore” but when I said this to Andrew he
opened me eyes when he snapping at me: “No. You’re just stuck in the high school
mode that you have to care about your image over functionality. Those guys wear
snow boots to school because its cold out and they’re smart. They don’t care,
but you do, and it doesn’t matter!”

Some of you who read this are still in high school,  most are graduated,
in or out of university. I always talk about how I love University because of
how much more “mature” it is than high school, but I was being immature
myself still. Once you get out “in the real world” or “half of the real world =
university kinda” you learn/keep-learning that a lot of things don’t matter.
I learned how to solve a first-order linear differential equation in math224
yesterday, but I think what I realized today is much more important….

“maybe I’m a hypocrite. maybe I should shut up”

February 3rd, 2003

first off before you even read what you are reading now, go check
out the pictures from yesterday
in the BANDS
section!  Then you can finally see the pictures I took
of
Calgary
in the PHOTOS section which I put back on. Enjoy!

February 2nd, 2003 (2:24am)

Ahhh. In the time it took me to listen to Sparky’s KICK ASS new cd I have
added three new sets of pictures from the show to(last)night. Check out all the
new pictures of Loaf, Liberated Noise, and Sparky in the BANDS section!  If
when you go to the bands section you don’t see the new pictures click “Reload”.

February 2nd, 2003 (1:38am)

I just got home from an amazing show at Louis’. If your online right now, the
pictures will be up within the hour. *tick tick tick tick tick*

February 1st, 2003. (<–Only 5 more days till by Birthday!!!)

so if you weren’t at the Odeon to see Morally Sound and Sparky
play (and you are of legal age) then you have NO EXCUSE for not being
there because it was an awesome show!  but don’t fret!  You can
still catch Sparky and Loaf and of coarse Liberated Noise at Louis’ tonight! Be
there…or be the shape of the photo below… (if anyone else finds that funny I
applaud you!).

All of the pictures are in the BANDS section so go
check ’em out. I’m still getting the hang of my new camera but the 3 below are
my favorites…

release. Tomorrow night Liberated Noise, Loaf, and Sparky play at Louis’. I will
be at both shows (hopefully!) taking pictures so see you there!  Both Shows
at at 9pm by the way.

So Brett with all his fury Tai-Kwon-Doe’ed to death the ice’e’kel

icicle…holy crap Spell checker just did it! Ok, ok… ICICLE)

January 30th, 2003

You know its actually the 29th… I always write my updates at like 2am so
its always already the next day. This time its only 10pm, but I’m putting down
the next day anyways!

The exhaust for the heater in my garage (I say “my” as if I own it…) drips
water = ice = see below.

It’s about 9 feet tall I believe. We have to knock it over tomorrow
though before it obstructs the exhaust, but for now its super cool!

finally in nerd news I got the HTML code that makes my webpage reload
every time people go to it. The problem was that I would update my website, but
then you would have to click “Reload” to see the changes. So… thanks to <META
http-equiv=”Pragma” content=”no-cache”> placed between <HEAD> and </HEAD> this
problem is fixed. THANKS SANTA! On the downside, you will reload all the
pictures each time you come here which will take longer,  but hey, that’s
better than not seeing “what’s new” :)

January 29th, 2003

there were well over 500 birds in my back yard today! It was freaky!

quote of the day: “what do most people mean by “living”?
They don’t mean living. They mean the latest and closest plural approximation
to singular prenatal passivity which science, in its finite but unbounded wisdom,
has succeeded in selling [them].” -e.e. cummings   <– if
you went to Joes you should remember cummings’ poems and essays we studied in
English. this brought back memories.

January 28th, 2003

I got the last and this season of Scrubs off KaZaA. I love that show!

a penny to anyone who can guess what today is!  ….You know what
gets me. The fact that millions of dollars a year are made on BOTTLED WATER!
Now I admit, bottled water does (in most cases) taste better than tap water and
depending where you are in the world can certainly be a lot safer but for
the majority of people you are paying more for what you can get free out of a
fountain than you would for a bottle of coke! Bottling companies must be
laughing their asses off and wiping them with your money!

Enough about that. Quote of the Day: (Dana walks in with her hair
newly dyed blonde) “Dana, I like your hair! …. It matches your face!” -Ryan
Jackson      it may be lame putting my own quote down
on my website but damn that was funny!

In other news BUNNIN’s NOT DEAD. Yes you may have wondered time and
time again when Shawn Bunnin is going to update his rant section. Well for those
of you who don’t know, Bunnin is in Victoria for this semester going to UofV
and training for the upcoming Mountain Biking season. Shawn has gone to the
worlds the last two years and this year with all the extra training he gets to
do in +10degree weather is will be a hot contender! (GOOD LUCK SHAWN! DON’T
BREAK YOUR LEG AGAIN!)    So as a result of all this, Bunnin
doesn’t have a computer in Victoria, but Internet Cafe’s only cost $2/hour so he
will be updating his section soon with a humungous rant about all he’s been
doing in Victoria and etc.

my final notes will be on fire alarms.  The last time a fire
alarm went off what went through your head? I know myself it
is always “ohh probably another drill” or “must be some kind of malfunction.”
No one takes Fire Alarms as serious as we should but then again can we blame
ourselves?  I remember this summer I was taking a nap in the library at
school after my summer class and the fire alarm went off for about 2 seconds for
a test. In one of those two seconds I was on my feet and running thinking “I
gotta get to the elevator!
” What’s sad is that getting to the elevator was
the first thing to come to mind!   Another bad thing (and what sparked
this whole rant) was that the fire alarm in my house has been malfunctioning
lately. Last week it went off 6 times in one night. Each time for almost a
minute!  What’s bad is that the alarm is at the top of the stairs (I live
in the basement) and it didn’t even wake me up!!! That was kinda scary when I
thought about it! Anyways, I’m off to bed now.  Sometime this week the
punkoryan webserver should be back up and I’ll have a million new pictures to
put up and hopefully punkoradio too!   Until then be sure to
check out the new band pics in the BANDS section if you haven’t yet. Night.

January 26th, 2003

you know what I love about life. The fact that “life is a book
that you can’t skip ahead to see the ending in.” You NEVER know what is coming
or what life is going to bring, and THAT is what makes life worth living for
(aside from the endless list of other things of coarse!). But if you think about
it. It would suck to die today, because then you will never get to see what
would have happened tomorrow, or next week, or a year from now. Tonight I saw a
friend at the Pat that I haven’t really seen since grad, and we were best
friends in high school. That just made me reflect on how exciting life really is
if you just forget about all the big (maybe ugly) things in life and think about
the little things. Like reuniting with a friend, or being at the right place at
the right time, or just having a really good day. APPRECIATE LIFE DAMNIT!

Through the Eyes of a Drunk….

I was downtown today, took some interesting pictures.

January 24th, 2003

Brett has HUGE TITS!

can you hear it? its coming… that’s right! The punkoryan
webserver will be up and running again in ETA 1 week. And that means the “full
site” will be back with more video and also I will be hosting streaming
punk-o-radio with all local band music for
www.threeohsix.org

A show to remember… that was really good! I went to see New Jacobin
Club, Morally Sound, and Polk play at the Bassment tonight. It was a really good
show and I took about 120 pictures. (of coarse!)  This was my first time
taking pictures of bands with my new camera and WOW did they ever turn out good!
So anyways check out the pictures in the BANDS section.

Now as for me…tonight someone was telling me that they go to my website all
the time when they are bored and are sad to see that I haven’t updated. Well
that inspired me (somewhat) to update more so thank you guy from Loaf!
Speaking of update there are 5 new bands in the  BANDS
section so check them out.

Now for my long story as to why the pictures from Calgary aren’t up yet…
well as you may have gathered I spent last weekend in Calgary and had an awesome
time. Along with that I awesome time I also go to take about 100 pictures of
Calgary both at night and day. My (I would say now to be) friend Maria happily
drove me around one night for 3 hours to all the best spots in Calgary to take
pictures. It was awesome! But, of coarse, my memory cards for my camera filled
up fast so, using Maria’s computer I copied the pictures to her computer (by
the way this story may be really boring so you can skip to the next paragraph if
you want
) and burned them onto a CD…well, I remember as I left her place
saying to George “man would it ever suck if I lost this cd”…..well …so
…yeah….the next day “of coarse” I can’t find the cd…I have no idea
where it is! We search the hotel room high and low and middle and no luck. So I
must have left in Maria’s car or something. So anyways Maria is mailing me
another copy (I called her just before she was about to delete all the pictures
off her computer!!!) and when they come in there will a ton of cool pictures for
all you guys to look at!

Well that last paragraph was pretty boring but what ever. I don’t have
read it
. Hmmm…now I guess would come the time for me to write something
witty or thought provoking….

How bout this!  WHAT: SASKATCHEWAN INDIE MUSIC FESTIVAL!  WHEN:
Feb 21st starting at 7pm going all night, 22nd Film Festival 1pm–>5pm then
Music from 7pm going all night.  WHERE: Cosmo Senior Center (accross from
the Hose and Hydrant bar) PRICE: $5 per event, or $13 for the whole shpeal.
MOREINFO: e-mail Jenn:

Was that good? No? Well screw you! I am tired and although I know I have a
bunch of “relevant” things to write about, I’m going to sleep now.

p.s. The PHOTOS section as well as some other things may not be available
anymore due to my limited web space. (FUCK YOU SHAW!!!) so hopefully next week
it’ll all be good again!

January 13th, 2003

I DON’T WANT TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL! :(

I just got back from the bestest’est funnest’est mostamazingness’s trip to
Calgary ever! I am WAY to tired to go into Details right now so I’ll tell all
you people who I’m sure are just dying to know what I did later. Untill then
check out the pictures of the CALGARY
TRIP
. If you weren’t on the trip then they will mean nothing to you, but
I also took close to a hundred pictures of Calgary at night and during the day
and I will hopefully have all those up within the week. Click
HERE
for a preview. Finally, we went to a local Calgary punk show. It was awesome!
I will have the pics for that up soon too. Wish me luck waking up tomarow for
my damn 8:30am class. This is going to suck!

January 7th, 2003

December 30th, 2002

Well I have become what I hate…I am a cell phone user. I used to say
I would never be one of them…those people who have those cancer boxes pressed
tight against their faces. Saying things like “i’ll call you back” and “whats
going on”….well now here I am. I have a cell phone. I can now say super
awesome things like “call my cell” and “im cool now because i have a cell phone
therefore i am cool”

Now I see people looking at me as I used to look at them. “look at that guy,
he thinks he’s so cool because he has a cell phone” …”bla bla bla” … “etc
etc etc”. I hate it.  I can’t sit now without being called every 10
minutes. I’m always “connected” which with its convenience comes annoyance. I
would shut it off, but then call forwarding would just send it to my other phone
anyways so now I’m trapped. I have a constant vibrating in my pants (which
freaked the hell out of me the first time but since then has become oddly
exciting….)

“complaining gets your nothing but whining gets annoying” -Ryan
Jackson

….so…how bout that snow storm outside eh?   It snowed 6″, so I
spent an hour shoveling my driveway and then it snowed another 6″!!!  But
something I realized today is that shoveling snow (at least I find) is one of
the most relaxing physical things you can do. Its so easy and rewarding, you
have accomplished something at the end of it, and it really gives you time to
think…..NO I WILL NOT SHOVEL YOUR DRIVEWAY! But yeah….snow is good.

I took some pictures around my house tonight of all the
SNOW. It’s kinda cool so check it out. As
well:

Tonight I saw the dumbest/funniest/wishihadacamera’est thing ever….
as Diller and I are driving down Central Avenue we see this kid making snow
Angels ON THE TRAIN TRACKS!  It would have been such a funny picture, but
alas “its when you DON’T have your camera….”

Anyways I think I might be putting my webserver back up pretty soon = more
videos pictures to come.

The end.

December 27th, 2002

Anything Funny about this picture?

So I finally sold out and bought a cell phone *booo!* well I know I know, but
I was working at Future Shop on Boxing Day and they had this sweet phone for $20
(after rebate of coarse) and it came with 4 months of free service. So I got it
and come May it can be a cool paper weight!

So I was lined up “for the deals” on boxing day at 8am, and while standing in
line for 2 hours I came to a realization of how ignorant people are when it
comes to consumerism. Now I work at Future Shop for HP so I know how it all
works, but it wasn’t until I stood there for 2 hours and saw how people buy
things on Boxing Day just because “its a deal” that I really saw how consumerism
affects people. People were buying things that weren’t even on sale, or that
were that price every day, but because it was boxing day they “had to get it”.
Now of coarse I was a victim of this too, (and don’t tell me you weren’t
either!) but for a second think about why you really bought all that crap that
you didn’t really need but just bought because it was a “deal” and then the next
time you see a sale think “is this them giving me a deal, or just enticing me to
buy more stuff?”

I’M A HYPOCRIT!

December 25th, 2002

Christmas is here and the punkoryan.com is back up!!!  Thanks to some
web space from my good friend Arlin punkoryan “lite” will have to be run for a
while till I can figure something out with my webserver. So there nearly as many
pictures or video as there used to be, but I’ll still have the bands and current
“friends” stuff up for now.

But for now I have to get back to “family stuff” so MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I got Puffed Wheat Cake!!! Thank You Grandma!!!

Mom couldn’t find the stockings so I got a McDonalds bag and my brother got
Zellers.

December 14th, 2002

Whew!!! So I went to Brett’s party on Friday night which was quite fun, but when I went to leave
I couldn’t find my CD case that I brought in…hmmm…..I looked all over the
house and tore up all the couch cushions and yet nothing! I was quite distraught
to say the least over the idea of someone stealing 20 CD’s from me….but I
couldn’t find them so that was the reality that I had to face.

When I got home I laid down and retraced all my steps and realized that I had
the CD case in my hand when I went upstairs! In a furry of anticipation I called
Brett’s house and asked him to go upstairs and…..THEY WERE THERE!

I was so relieved, because it wasn’t just that it was 20 CD’s = $400 but that
it was all of my favorite CD’s in 1 case and a CD collection isn’t something you
can throw together in a day. It takes years of buying CD’s here and there, and
having a story for every CD and where you got it from. Half the CD’s in that
case I wouldn’t be able to buy in the city because I got them at shows when I
saw the bands live and to just “burn” all the CD’s wouldn’t be the same nor
would just going and buying them all at once again.

Speaking of BRETT’S PARTY
<— Here are the pictures!

So what else is new? Well I finally got around to having the GO TEAM JACKSON!
shirts made for Jarrod Jackson and I. Jarrod and I always talked about how we
should get shirts made that say “go team Jackson!” and I was in Schmatta today
and thought to myself, “its either do it now or a year from now” so I had them
made. I knew the girls there (HI Erica!) and so they gave me 20% off. (THANK
YOU!!! :)

In other news I got a new digital camera! My 715 camera broke (I’ll miss
you!) and they don’t make it anymore so I paid the $26.49 difference and got the
hp 850 camera which is like a WAY better camera so I’m super happy about
that….now if only I wasn’t in finals I could take pictures with it :(

Speaking of finals…yeah…..4 down / 2 to go…..I’m *optimistic* (as
always) that I passed all my classes (so far) so lets hope that I keep that up!
Anyways its 4:11am and I need sleep so I can study tomarow and hopefully if I
get enough done go see Polk and SIXTY STORIES at Amigos tonight
(Saturday)….*HEY YOU SHOULD GO TOO!*

-Ryan

December 8th, 2002

Well if you didn’t notice I haven’t been updating or anything lately. This
would be due to the fact that I’m only home for about 8 hours a day and I’m
sleeping for 6 of it.

There won’t be many updates in the next two weeks because I’m in finals. So
there’s my excuse!

For the time being though…WISH ME LUCK ON FINALS!!!

December 1st, 2002

I’ve added some more NIGHT SHOTS I took
last night at the University and on Central Ave.

Today was my last day to use my CDplus card which I thought only needed 1
more stamp to get me “my 10th CD free” but alas… it was “buy 10 get $10 off a
CD”… I almost didn’t buy anything but then I started browsing and found Green
Day – Kerplunk used for $10.99 (yes that’s right folks Dookie wasn’t their first
album, they had two albums along with 2 E.P.’s before anyone even heard of them.
(sorry to anyone who already knew that, but most people don’t.) I also found
Straight Faced – Conditioned, Blindside – self titled  (<— BLIND SIDE
KICKS ASS! If you like fast/heavy/hardcore/awesome music check them out) and
System of a Down’s new CD “steal this cd”. I think thats a good name for a cd
because it seems no one buys cd’s anymore since Napster/Kazaa. All my friends
think I’m a sucker because I actually “buy” CD’s. But I would so much rather
have the real CD than “just burn it” because I care more about the CD, and I am
supporting the band so that they can make more albums  (though 3/4 of the
CD’s I bought today were used so none of that money is going to the bands, but
you know what I mean). Kazaa is great because you can discover new bands but if
you like them you should go and BUY THEIR CD’S!!! It will sound better and you
wont go to hell! :)

It’s study’n season again! I spent my Saturday night at school studying EE201
and it was great. That hypnotist CD I listened to really worked on me because I
can study now!

One last note. Tostitos new flavor “Salsa & Cream Cheese” is amazingly
tasterific! Go get some!

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm :)

November 30th

Sorry for all the downtime in the last couple days. The viruses
returned…but THEY ARE ALL GONE!  I finally got an antivirus that works
with my server and now all is secure and good!

Here are some pictures of the SUNRISE
on Thursday November 28th at about 8:30am.

Yesterday I worked 9:30am to Midnight!  I worked the Future Shop Grand
opening. Wow it was huge! The store is huge! There were so many customers and I
was there for the morning meeting. There were like 70 salesmen and people
working and a huge crowd of “door crashers” waiting to get in and grab the good
deals.

Well I’m off to school to study now. Have fun!

November 27th, 2002

BUNNIN has a new
rant so check it out!

Added some pictures of the sunset
tonight, and there will be more to come.

The marks are in and I got 23% on my math223 midterm #2. Whew! Now I can drop
the class :) I have to go to school and finish (stick) an assignment tonight so
there’s not going to be as much of a deep thought provoking rant as there was
yesterday but oh well.

Friday is Future Shop’s grand opening and I work 9:30-5:30pm there for
Hewlett Packard and then 5:30-12 midnight after that. So I will be pretty tired
on Friday, but on the bright side that’s a lot of money!

You don’t need to read this paragraph at all …so I finally
figured out
how to change the settings of my Linux Apache server (the
webserver that you are on right now if you are reading this) and…I got
cocky…changed a few more settings than I should have and when I restarted the
computer…”starting server..FAILED” …so now I have wasted all the
hours I spent installing Linux and I have to do it again….I have seriously
spent 3 or 4 times more hours on the webserver than the website, but ohh well.
Eventually I’ll figure out what I’m doing and have it running the way I want it.
–> which means no more down time for my website! *hooray!*

November 26, 2002

….something to think about…

I always “at first glance” see people in photos as having ‘blank’ minds like
the person in the picture doesn’t have a soul, or a brain, they are just
mindless and captured in an instant….then I think about  what’s going
though their head at that instant” …though if you think about it, in
1/1000sec shutter speed, the mind isn’t really thinking at that
instant…thoughts are dragged over time like talking

My friend Steph brought all this up and now I’m really thinking about it. She
brought up the example of the Mona Lisa and how we see it as a famous panting
but never think of the person in the painting…. of coarse then I brought up
the speculation that the Mona Lisa was simply Da Vinci drawing himself as a
woman…. (go HERE
for more info)….so yeah that was a bad example, but you get the idea…of how
when you look at people in books and magazines “posing” for pictures they have
to be thinking something –> what is it?  or is it nothing? did the picture
“steal the persons soul” and the soul died so its a picture of a dead person? or
am I just way over analyzing things and I hate it when people do that…ohh well
think about it.

AN-OTHER thing I’ve always wondered was if my friend Gordon (who is
Chinese and came from China when he was 4) “thinks” in English or Chinese?
Like he talks to us in English, and his family in Chinese so he gets equal
portions of each language pretty much …but what language does his “inner
voice” speak when he’s thinking?

think about that! (in English preferably :)

p.s. when I asked Gordon this he told me that you don’t think in words but in
images so it doesn’t matter what language you speak….

New stuff includes:

– Gordon (and people)’s Grade 12 English Parody Video:
Lost in 60 Minutes

-My Grade 12 Christian Ethics video on
Work (boring yet I threw in
some funny stuff to make it interesting…thus contradicting me calling it
boring *ahh!*

-I’ve also added High Res versions of Arlin’s videos
LIX and his Grade 12 English
Parody (BTW HAPPY BIRTHDAY ARLIN!!!)

-Pictures from the IEEE Big
Brother
Little Brother  (yes with actual little brothers, not the ones
you get drunk) Christmas party where we played dodge ball with grade 6 kids and
then after had a HUGE POPCORN FIGHT!

-Pictures from Bowling with Profs night  (don’t even bother caring if
your not in EE)

November 25, 2002

WHAT’S NEW!

– Shawn Bunnin’s Grade 12 Drama video: THE
INSIDER
<— really really good. Worth a watch

-Some NIGHT SHOTS that I took last night with my new wide angle lens, I’m
hoping to go down town one of these nights and take a whole mess of night shots,
I just have to wait for the right weather and time.

-Pictures from the MECH/ELEC Pub Crawl.
<—Be sure to look at all the shirts
they are hilarious!

It’s been a while since I’ve updated! A little too long…now that my
webserver is secure and virus free I can spend time on the actual website!
I am kicking myself for not going to the Bassment on Friday now though because
Liberated Noise played along with Polk and Autopilot and two other bands (I
think) and I really wish I had gone to take pictures…but ohh well a lesson
learned. I did, kinda get a lot done this weekend though so that’s good, and I
almost did an entire assignment on my own! *applause*  But anyways, now for
my ramblings of my last few days:

NICEST BUS DRIVER EVER! On Thursday I went to the Skuzz and before I
left I took my bus pass out of my wallet so that I couldn’t lose it, but then of
coarse Friday morning I go to catch the bus and I don’t have it. I tell the bus
driver that he can go because I forgot my pass and he’s like “where do you
live?” I was so shocked! I’m only 5 houses away from my bus stop so I sprinted
to and fro my house and was to class in time! *applause*

Speaking of the Skuzz So Thursday after the Skuzz (at like 2:30)
we go driving around and we stop at good ol’ St. Joes and Brett (who is very
drunk of coarse) decides that he should try to climb the fence at the back of
the school. What do we hear next but THE SECURITY ALARM going off!
Another Antymniuk moment…

Another $300 down the toilet. So yesterday I’m sitting here and I try
to turn the refresh rate of my monitor up, I set it to the usual setting and it
goes blank…ok…wait 15 seconds and it turns back…so I try again…goes
blank…STAYS BLANK…now it wont turn on at all!  So now I’m
staring at a crappy old 14″ monitor that hurts my eyes and I have a nice 17″
monitor sitting on the floor…mocking me…laughing at my red, watery,
squinting eyes! :(

Ms. Exner is still hot! Last night Diller and I went to The Hose
for Dana’s Birthday (Happy Birthday Dana!) and when I was on the main level
getting a drink for Dana I looked over and saw….My Grade 10 Science teacher
Ms. Exner! She was sitting with Ms. Scissons and Mrs. Taylor-Gordon and some
other teachers too. Diller and I finally got the courage to go up and talk to
her…and of coarse Diller bought her a shot and I bought her a drink. We were
like “Sorry for giving you a hard time back in grade 10 Science but we’re in
Engineering now so you must have done something right!” She told me that the
sign I made for her back in grade 10 is still up on her wall and she always
tells her students on the first day the story of how on her first day of
teaching grade 10 Science the class was talking and she yelled “Do I need a sign
up there that says “WHEN I TALK YOU DON’T!!!” So of coarse the next
morning I showed up with a 10 foot banner with those exact words which she hung
up on the wall…Hmmm…. I just now realized that I left a mark at my old high
school! Wow, and I didn’t even have to score any touchdowns or write death
threats in the girls bathroom :)

Diller is back at Mc.Donalds!!! I’d like to officially announce that
L. Chris Diller (I bet your wondering what the L is for now :) has his first
re-training shift on December 2nd, and I will be hopefully the one training him!

Anyways I seeing as how I have school (and Finals coming up…OH MY!) I
better kick it, but remember to always check back as:

THINGS TO COME:

-Another grade 12 English Parody video entitled:  Lost In 60 Minutes

– 3 more videos as well that I have to convert

-Of coarse more and more pictures.

-BUNNIN section is up so be sure to check it out.

November 19th, 2002

MATH IS OVER! Well, sadly I failed the shit out of my midterm (big surprise)
so I think I’ll be dropping it now because if I don’t think I will be able to do
well enough on the final to make up for my bad midterm marks so I will just have
to take it this summer. (*sound of $400 flushing down the toilet*).  Aside
from that, as I type this I am installing Linux Mandrake with Apache on my web
server because some ASSHOLE thinks its funny to try to hack into my web server
and put viruses on it…well I can tell you that you may find it funny to fuck
with other peoples web servers but you wont be laughing when your in ASSHOLE
HELL with my elementary school bullies and the greek…

So this weekend I spent an enormous amount of time studying…yet didn’t
really get any studying done! Last night at like 3 in the morning I am laying in
bed and my mind is just racing, its been racing all weekend and I just cant
concentrate on anything (except everything….you know) and I’m like “oh man I
need some Redilin or something (my friends have told me I have ADD and I have
EVERY symptom but I don’t want to go on any drugs cuz then I wont be
me…another whole story that I’ll tell later) anyways back to the story at
hand. So I’m laying there and I’m thinking “I need to concentrate” and then I
remember that this summer at the EX I saw Wayne Lee the “hip-notist” and I
bought his cd “dynamic concentration” which hypnotizes you into concentrating
and studying and working better. I am stupid and kept on putting off listening
to the cd but finally I listened to it…WOW! Today I studied better than I ever
have before. “there is nothing more important than achieving my goal” ,
“distractions keep me from achieving my goals” , “I must buy all of Wayne Lee’s
cd’s to achieve my goals”  (hehe he didn’t actually say that but that would
be funny).

So this summer I left 5 cd’s out at my cousins place in BC and she finally
sent them back to me…except she kept three!!! :(   Just so you know
(because I’m sure you want to) the cd’s I got back were Smacking Isaiah (an
amazing band I discovered at Warped Tour this summer), Bad Religion – the grey
race (I’m listening to it right now, probably my favorite cd of theirs) and Dr.
Dre – Chronic 2001. Ya ya I know this is PUNKoryan.com, but that would
definitely be the best rap cd I have ever heard. It one best rap cd of the year
and for a good reason…it was!   The two cd’ s that my cousin kept
were AFI – very Proud of Ya’ , and Blink 182. I miss them Tara. Please mail them
to me!

So yeah… the cool thing I have just realized about this website is that I
can ramble on and on and on and on and on and you pretty much have to read it
for fear that you might miss something. (*evil laugh) and believe me I can
ramble. Speaking of that, if you haven’t noticed BUNNIN section is up. I set it
up so he can update his own rants himself, so be sure to check out his “extremely
biased opinions” and well…he’s has “exclusive rantivity” so your stuck with
him!

Speaking of crappy sections of my website…(*Bunnin thinks
for a second and wonders if that was a joke directed towards him*) if you have
any suggestions about my website feel free to email me at
actionjackson@shaw.ca I want to
make this the best site I can (taking rime and laziness into consideration of
coarse). The #1 thing that people like is that I thumb nailed all the pictures,
and well everyone loves pictures so that’s what this site it all about.  If
you ever have a contribution to this site feel free to e-mail me and I can put
it on my site and full credit will be given to you for your contribution etc.

I have added close to 600 pictures from my trip to BC and
also just some pictures of the UofS. Now most of them will be boring because I
take hundreds of pictures of EVERYTHING and if I’m lucky 1 in 100 will turn out
to be super nice (see PHOTO’s section) so these are just ALL the pictures will
none of the fat cut out, so don’t be critical if they are crappy, poorly taken
or boring but some people actually like spending hours looking at pictures so
for that reason I’m gunna put up pretty much everything I take with my camera on
here :)

Speaking of Camera,

November 17th, 2002

The crane is gone! :(

So my 812 camera is broken right now (I can’t get the battery door to open)
and my 715 camera is in the process of being broken right now (don’t ask) so I
didn’t bring a camera to school today and what happens? THEY ARE TAKING THE
CRANE DOWN!  The T-crane used to construct the Spinks (hehe) addition has
been up for just over a year now and every day Andrew and I stare at it in awe
because it is so freaking cool…and now…I have like to reason to go to school
anymore (well that’s not true) but I will sure miss the countless minutes
staring at the crane. So there are no pictures of them taking it down (which I
am kicking myself for but oh well) but it re-teaches a valuable lesson that you
should always have a camera handy cuz you never know when they are going to take
down the giant crane that was so freaking cool…

So math sucks so incredibly much! I was at school today from 1pm to 1am…wow
that’s 12 hours! Now you would think that in 12 hours I would be able to get a
lot of studying done right?…well if you think that then you don’t know me very
well!  I don’t even have the crane to blame for my being distracted from
studying today (aside from watching it be taken down which I guess would
contradict what I just said) anyways WISH ME LUCK on my math223 midterm that I
write on Monday (as well as everyone else who is writing it) because it will be
incredibly hard and I will fail it anyways but with your well wishes I’m sure I
will only fail it by 1 question and that 1 question will mock me for the rest of
my life or something…oh well I better go sleep now.

November 15,2002

I’ve added Mike Harrison’s Grade 12 Drama video as well as some more pictures
in the friends section. Enjoy!

November 13th, 2002

I’ve added a “friends” section with Pictures of the Warped Tour Road Trip as
well as Pictures from Halloween. There is a video of my friends Skydiving in the
videos section too. Sorry for the crappy filming but Chris was getting eaten
alive by the bugs!

So Sunday night I’m at school and I’m talking to this guy about punk shows
and he’s like “Winnipeg is a cool place, they get shows all the time. Bands like
No Means No. I love them” and I told him to go to
www.threeohsix.org because it always
lets you know when shows are going on. I go on the site and check the shows
section and what do we see but “No Means No @ Amigos Nov10th/02”!!!  Taught
me a valuable lesson to not go more than a day without checking threeohsix.org
because if you do…you will miss out!

As you can see my Hit Counter isn’t working (and I don’t have time to figure
it out right now) but I checked my web server statistics and 136 unique IP’s
have accessed my website which means 136 different people have been to this
site! I find that to be crazy, but then again I guess this is the internet… I
am always in the process of adding more and more pictures (sorry there haven’t
been any shows lately that I’ve been too) so remember to check back often. As
well I have a lot of video to convert to Windows Media and have in the videos
section as well.

In the list of “to come” are the St. Joe’s After After Grad 2001 videos,
grade 12 drama and English videos, and some videos from shows as well.

November 10th, 2002

Welcome to Punk-O-Ryan version 2.0!

Its pretty much the same old site, but now there’s frames and thumbnails “oooohhhh….ahhhhhh!”

As well I have added videos from high school and some shows (if they don’t
work its my webserver, so just check back later)
