After attending the University of Saskatchewan and Loyalist College Photojournalism program I was fortunate to land internships at the Saskatoon Star Phoenix, The Canadian Press in Toronto, The Ottawa Citizen, The Edmonton Sun, and finally the Edmonton Journal where I became staff in November 2007.
I primarily shoot multimedia content for edmontonjournal.com I have a passion for video and combining audio with still images to give my subjects a voice.
I am faculty with MacEwan University in Edmonton and teach the documentary photo course with Journal photographer Greg Southam.
Recently I won Feature Photo of the Year for the Editor and Publisher Magazine annual photo contest as well as honorable mention for multimedia. I was nominated for a News Photographers Association of Canada (NPAC) 2008 video of the year. I was nominated for 2007 Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) photographer of the year. In April 2007 I was honored with two National Photo of the Year awards for Feature and Illustration/Fashion with NPAC. In 2006 I was awarded Feature photo of the Year, News photo of the year and Photographer’s choice with the Western Canadian News Photographers Association (WCNPA).
Originally from Saskatoon, I decided after three years of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Saskatchewan to make the biggest decision of my life. I moved 3000 kilometers to Belleville, Ontario to go to Photojournalism school at Loyalist College and pursue my dream of being a news photographer. I would say the dream has come true!
