Posted by ryanjackson on Feb 12, 2009 in Multimedia, training, video

I’m teaching part of a documentary class at MacEwan College with Greg Southam. He’s teaching the still portion and I’m teaching the multimedia portion. Here is my two-hour talk on video, basic and advanced technique and examples from shooting regular video at a major daily newspaper.

You can also download the two-hour video in iPod video format.

Also check out my “Multimedia: Know it all… or at least enough to get a job!” Talk and
my class I taught on Audio Slideshows (Soundslides) and Audio Editing.

Enjoy!

Vortraits

Posted by ryanjackson on Jan 5, 2009 in video

Instead of taking still pictures of all my friends this Christmas I decided to take several video portraits or “vortraits” using my modified video camera and 35mm lenses.

I used a Canon HV20 video camera, a DIY 35mm DOF adapter made from a macro lens and a focusing screen and Canon 24mm f1.4, 50mm f1.8 and 85mm f1.8 lenses.

You can also watch it in full screen HD. (Click on “Watch in High Quality”)

Enjoy!

Horse trainer Travis Umphrey, who owns many horses and employs several people has decided to move his operation to Ontario which he says is much more friendly to harness racing than Alberta right now. Here is poses with “Trisha’s Beauty” in a stable at Northlands on November 21, 2008.  Photo by Ryan Jackson/Edmonton Journal

Darryl Cutting and his partner Melinda Smith (not shown) run a mid-sized stable at Northlands. Their operation is too small to afford to pack up and move to Ontario. If Harness racing in Alberta dies, so will their livelihood. Here Cutting is pictured in his stable at Northlands on November 14, 2008.    Photo by Ryan Jackson/Edmonton Journal
