– My Birthday!

Cyborg….

Youíve seen them. I see them all the time. Cyborgs. Or at
least they wish they were. They are the guys who
always
have their hands free headset on ìjust in caseî someone calls them on
their cell phone. They donít
have to be lowered to the level of a mere organic being by holding their
cell phone to their head.

They can talk as if the person was there, talk as if they
werenít even on the phone, and the whole time looking soooo cool with their
microphone and ear piece melded to their head like it was a part of them.

I laugh to myself and roll my eyes when I see them out in
public. Trying to integrate with society even though they are far superior
beings ñ half man, half cell phone.

Now donít get me wrong. I strongly support hands free
headsets when you are driving for obvious reasons. What I am talking about is
the guys who wear their headset ALL the time just to look cool. I wonder though
what makes them want to do this.

We all allow technology to rule our lives. Well right now I
am typing this on a laptop and am uploading to my website
wirelessly with my cell phone. (Yes I am super cool too!)
. However I
think some people want to be technology.
They have their cell phone, pda, pager, digital camera and mp3 player all
snapped to their belt. They recharge their batteries like they eat ñ to keep
life going. Every device and every second saved earns them valuable time toÖ.
spend on ebay buying another device.

The guy with the hands free headset on all the time
though takes it to a new level. He doesnít have time to use his
technology, because it saves him so many seconds each day that he wants it to be
his technology. The cell phone is an extension of him and when he is ìout
of the service areaî that part of him has been amputated.

Cell phone companies are already testing cell phones that
are implanted inside people, so that there are no wires, no batteries,
just integration. Or is it assimilation?

That day will come in our lifetimes and when it
does I hope that guy with the hands free headset on
all the time will be happy. Until then he will just have to keep on looking
super cool and hopefully take a break once and a while from his cyborg toys to
charge them. Maybe then he will
pick
up a normal phone and call someone rather than always
being ready and waiting.
